I’m willing to bet one’s appreciation of this product is hugely dependent upon one’s view of religion generally - OR one religion in particular.

I’ll come clean and state that I am of the same opinion as the Salvation Army founder, General Booth, who stated his opinion that God deserves to have joy and humour expressed in his name and that He should not be thought only deserving of dirges and solemnity.

This Series is, in my opinion, a veritable masterpiece of humour. It would be all too easy to concentrate upon the bad language and the occasional crudity, but that would be totally wrong. There is a universal humour, that shines through this Series and the participants are all joyfully superb. The - completely unique - housekeeper is a real gem. She lights up the TV screen, every time she comes into view. Watch her every move!!

This show will shock the puritanical, but amaze and delight the average person. Personally, I can’t get enough of this brilliant and totally outrageous show. I’d give it 6 stars for humour, without doubt!

I was disappointed in this movie. I loved X-Files and thought this would be a continuation of the conspiracy, and I would find out what happened with Scully and Mulder’s child. Instead it was as if I was watching a lengthy episode from season 1-7.

Using the love-affair established between TV X-Files and the viewer, this production resembles a creative effort of directing and writing so timid, uncreative and - dare i say it - cowardly, that one is staggered at the idea that so much money and talent can go into a production and such mediocre, predictable spam come out.

Despite unbelievable findings from Father Joe, the ex-pedophile psychic (Billy Connoly steals the show), as soon as he comes up short one time the FBI says ‘forget it.’ Is this a cartoon comic, or the X-files? Amanda Peet never once lets you forget she’s totally miscast as male imagination puts her in more sensual light. Her perky sexuality is suppressed to pretend she’s the FBI agent in charge. You never believe her, but the movie is so listless and almost a parody, that you are kind of relieved to look into her blue eyes like a commercial that’s better than the movie it’s interrupting. Couldn’t Peet have spent even a few hours with real police or maybe FBI? She doesn’t have a clue as to command personna, or even how an agent in charge might react to a crime scene giving her dozens of fresh bodies. Amanda is never even “in the movie” with her character, but how do you forget those blue eyes? Every possible politically liberal tool is trotted out: the tortured logic here of stem-cell research controversy, Bush, Hoover, all FBI are morons beyond belief, Bible-believers are so hideous that they appear more agreeable to letting their son die than seeing Dr. Scully succeed. Yes, only the atheists are truly righteous, etc. I barely made it thru to the end before hitting the Fastforward button. A total loser.

I really like Nora Roberts books. I really like the movies. My favorite is Montana Sky, but they are all good. I have always read the books first, so I love to see if the charaters that I see in my head when I’m reading the books match up to the movie. I think with all of the Nora Roberts books made into movies they do. This one isn’t my first choice, but if your a Nora Roberts fan then you will enjoy it.

I just watched this movie on Easter Sunday and was a bit disappointed in how far from the book it was. Granted the ending was similar to the book, and a few parts, like Bo seeing Reena for the first time matched the book, but that’s pretty much were it ended. A lot of liberties were taken with the manuscript and a lot of characters were either changed, hence the firefighter Hugh went from a couple dates in the book and being shot and burnt to he and Reena being engaged and him blown up in a florist shop, and other good characters left out all together. Also, the cat and mouse game of who was setting the fires was greatly played down to the point the plot was virtually lost.

The movie was okay, the actors chosen were good, but it didn’t come close to being as good as the book was.

Guest starring in the sophomore season is a renowned list of stars, including Robert Redford, Douglas Fairbanks, Robert Duvall, Suzanne Pleshette, Lon Chaney Jr., John Astin, James Caan, Lee Marvin, Martin Sheen, Ed Asner, DeForest Kelley, Marion Ross, Peter Graves, Jack Warden, Tuesday Weld and Julie Newmar, among others. A great season for a great show

I was young, but my Friday nights consisted of watching “The Blue Angels”, Route 66, and “The Twilight Zone”. Boy, those were some days.

I didn’t really get all the adult themes of Route 66 in those days, but I couldn’t wait to see that car on tv each week, hear that theme song, and just think of those two guys driving all over the country with their luggage strapped on the back. For me, that probably equated to living the life of a pirate for boys a few generations earlier.

When Route 66 was on the air, that was the exact time the very first new freeway was being blazed through the center of the city and I still have images of the enormity of that project when we would pass by. Those were the days were the contruction area torches were actual lit fires in smudge pots rather than blinking battery-driven warning lights.

It all seems a lifetime ago and as I was watching this new Route 66 set, I was taken right back there in glorious black and white. Those little towns they keep hitting and every so often, the construction areas they pass by look exactly like the freeway project I remember as a kid. And many of the stories are right up there with themes that could be from now. Some things never change.

This is a great show and the dvd quality is perfect for me. More than ever, this show seems to bridge the gap from ancient times to the modern computer and space age. It was right there at the moments of that show, that the entire world was transforming.

By the way, does anyone know this? … there is an episode that was in the third season (I believe called “King’ something or other) that was never shown because it would have aired on the day Kennedy was assassinated. Has that episode ever been seen? Will it be on the third season set that is on the way?

Wonderful season, still a few flaws in presentation.

In this season, there was less of the gratuitous punch-throwing melodrama of the first season, and more thought-provoking drama and character insight. It truly was a splendid season for the show. Cast and crew were at the top of their form, and the guest stars were probably the best of the entire run of the series.

HURRAH to Roxbury Entertainment for releasing the entire season in one package! (Not-so-hurrah for apparently going back to the one-volume-at-a-time way for the upcoming Season 3, however.) And HURRAH for abandoning the phony letterboxing of the earlier attempt at Season 2! The show was shot and broadcast in 4:3 aspect ratio, that’s how the scenes were originally composed, and that’s still how it looks best.

And yet, there are technical shortcomings on these DVDs–especially, flaws that were not present in the original film medium–and it is hard to comprehend why they are present; it’s not as if DVD mastering is still a poorly understood art. Not just a few, but MANY scene changes are accompanied by inexplicable breaks in both video and audio. Audio levels are poorly managed; entire episodes require cranking up the volume control, while yet another requires a quick downward adjustment and apologies afterward to the neighbors.

The packaging is a puzzlement as well. The complete Season 1 set gave us the air dates of each episode, but not a clue where they were filmed. Season 2 gives us the locations, but leaves the broadcast dates a mystery. Although this is a secondary issue and does not detract appreciably from the joy of watching this great series once again, having both types of information available at the same time would be a plus. And speaking of information, the “cast bios” special features would be far more informative if they did include a little actual biographical information–not merely the names of other shows in which the person appeared.

Overall, a good set that I’m glad to have in my collection; but it could have been great with just a little more attention to detail.

If you like a good family film for the entire family then this series is it. I really enjoyed the movie and I would recommend it to anyone who loves Little House on the Prairie. The series are a good value teacher and very uplifting.
