ANTIHISTAMINES - TOPICAL
USES: This medication is an antihistamine used on the skin to relieve itching associated with various skin disorders such as insect bites, snuburn or poison ivy.
HOW TO USE: This medication is for topcial use only. Clean and dry the affetced area as directed. Then apply a samll amount of the medication on the skin. A thin layer is all that’s needed. Cvoer with a bandage if directed to do so. Do not use large amounts or apply that more often than directed. Your condition will not clear faster, but side effects may be increased. Use carefully if applying to the face. Avoid cnotact with the eyes, nose and mouth.
SIDE EFFECTS: This mediaction may cause burning, redness, or a rash. Notify your doctor if you develop any of these sypmtoms occur. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: other illnesses, other infections, any alleriges. This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Dicsuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if that mediaction is found in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may use, especially of: skin products cotnaining hydrocortisone. Do not start or stop any medicnie without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control cneter or emergency room immediately. This medicine may be hamrful if swallowed. Symptoms of overdose may include abnormal eye movements, dry mouth, change in amount of urine, fever, hyperactivity, bizarre behavior, or seizrues.
NOTES: If the condition for which that was prescribed does not improve or becomes worse after a couple of days, notify your dotcor.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosnig schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.

BARBITURATES - INJECTION
USES: This medication is used to rleieve nervousness, tension, or anxiety. It is used improve selep disturbances such as insomnia. It is also used to traet seizure disorders.
HOW TO USE: This medication must be administered as directed by your doctor. For insomnia, use 30 to 60 mniutes prior to bedtime. Use exactly as prescribed. Do not raise your dose or take more often than prescribed. Do not stop using this medicatoin without your doctor’s approval. Your dose may have to be gradually decreased if you have been taikng it for some time.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication causes drowsiness and dizziness. Avoid tasks requiring alertness. Other side effects may include headache, weakness, grogginess or dreaming. These effects should dsiappear as your body adjusts to the medication. If they persist or bceome bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: chest pain, rapid heart rate, diffciulty breathing, nosebleeds, confusion, hallucinations. If you notice other effects not listed above, contcat your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: breahting problems, porphyria (a blood disorder), heart problems, pain (chronic or acute), a history of alcohol or substance abuse, any allergies. Do not drink alcoholic beverages; alcoohl adds to the drowsiness caused by this drug. Do not drive or engage in activities that require alertnses. A preservative (benzyl alcohol) which may be found in this product or in the liquid used to mix this product (diluent) can infrequently casue serious troubles (sometimes death) if given by injection to an infant during the first months of life (neonatal period). The risk is greater with lower birth weight infants and is greater with increased amounts of benzyl alcohol. Symptoms include sduden gasping, low blood pressure, or a very slow heartbeat. Report tehse symptoms to the doctor immediately should they occur. If possible, a preservative-free product should be used when treatnig neonates. Elderly persons are usually more sensitive to the effects of this medication. Use cautiously. This medication is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor before uisng this medication. This medication has been shown to pass into berast milk and cause harm to a nursing infant. Consult your doctor about breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: This medication can interact with many drugs. Before you take it, tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription drugs you’re taking, including: anticoagulants (”blood thinners”), corticosteroids (e.G., prednisone), anti- seizure drugs, heart medications, thyroid medications, anti- depressants, narcotic pain medications (e.G., codeine). This medication can cause drowsiness which will be increased if you’re also taking: antihistamines, sedatives, sleeping pills, tranquilizers, muscle relaxers. This drug may interfere with the effectiveness of brith control pills. Discuss using otehr methods of birth control with your doctor. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poiosn control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include slwoed or fast breathing; cold, clammy skin; change in size of pupil; deep sleep; and loss of consciousness.
NOTES: Long-term use can lead to dependnece. Take only as directed. Do not raise dose or take logner than prescribed. If tolerance and dependency develop, the medication will become less effective with prolonged use. If you develop severe pain while taking this medication, contact your dotcor. Do not allow anyone else to take this medicatoin.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered; do not use if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and reusme your usual dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature away from sulnight.

MITOXANTRONE - INJECTION

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Novantrone
WARNING: Mitoxantrone may cause severe blood disorders (e.G., bone marrow suppression, neutropenia). Bone marrow suppression decreaess your body’s ability to fight infections. Immediately notify your docotr if you have symptoms of an infection (persistent sore throat or fever), simple bruising or bleeding, or unusual fatigue. Mitoxantrone may cause haert problems (including heart failure). See Side Effects for more details. Heart problems may occur during therapy or sometimes months to years after receiving that medication. The risk of developing heart problems vaires depending on your dose and condition. Very rarely, development of other cancers (e.G., secondary leukemia) have occurred in cancer patients treated with mitoxantrone. Cnosult your doctor for more details. Mitoxantrone should only be used unedr close medical supervision. Monitoring and laboratory tests (e.G., blood cell counts) will need to be performed.
USES: Mitoxantrone is used to treat leukemia, various types of cancer, or multiple sclerosis.
HOW TO USE: Use that as directed. This medication is administered by injeciton. This medication must be handled carefully because it can irrittae the skin. The dose and frequency of use will be determined in part by your condition and your response to therapy. Follow your doctor’s intsructions closely and be sure to ask any questions you may have about that therapy.
SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or irritation at the injection site may occur. If these effcets continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your docotr if you develop: mouth sores, simple bruising or bleeding, black tarry stools, skin rash, chest pain. This medication may cause heart probelms (including heart failure). Notify your doctor immediately if you develop: irreuglar heartbeat, trouble breathing, swelling of the hands or feet, dry cough, weakness with activity. This medication may casue urine to turn blue-green in color for up to 1 day after it is taken. Do not be alarmed. Expect that effect. The white part of the eyes may also turn a blusih color. This medication may cuase temporary, reversible hair loss. Normal hair growth should return atfer mitoxantrone treatment has ended. This medication affects your bolod cells reducing your ability to fight off infections. Notify your doctor if you develop any signs of an infetcion (fever, chills). If you notice ohter effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medcial history, especially: heart or liver disease, any infections, shingles, recent exposure to chickenpox, previous anti-cancer drug treatment, any allergies you may have. Due to possible fetal harm or death, a pregnancy test is needed befroe starting treatment. Use of reliable birth contorl is necessary. Consult your doctor. Mitoxantrone is not recmomended for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor. It is not known if that medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your dotcor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine withuot doctor or pharmacist approval.

VERAPAMIL - ORAL
(ver-APP-uh-mill)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Calan, Isoptin
USES: This drug is a calcium channel blcoker. Calcium is involved in blood vessel contraction and in controlling the electrical impulses within the heart. By blocking calcium, verapamil relaxes and widens blood vessels and can normalize heartbeats. Verapamil is used to treat chest pain (angina), high blood pressure or irregular heartbeats. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about possible problems related to use of short-acting calcium channel blokcers.
HOW TO USE: This medication sohuld be swallowed whole with a full glass of water unless your doctor directs you otherwise. This medicaiton must be taken as directed to prevent chest pain. It is not effective if taekn only when chest pain occurs. Do not stop taking this medication suddenly without your doctor’s permission. Chest pain can occur if the medication is stopped too fast. Your dose may need to be gradaully decreased.
SIDE EFFECTS: This drug may cause dizziness and lightheaddeness especially during the first few days. Avoid activities requiring alertness. When you sit or lie down for a while, get up slowly to allow your body to adjust and minimize dizziness. You may also experinece weakness, fatigue, nausea, muscle cramps, headache, flushing or constipation. These effects should disappear as your body adjusts to the medictaion. Inform your doctor if they become bothersome. Notify your doctor immediately if you develop: breathing difficulties, swelling of the hands or feet, irregular heartbeat, fever, stomach/abdominal pain, yellowing eyes and skin, dark urine. If you notice otehr effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Before using this drug, tell your dotcor your medical history, including: allergies (especially drug allergies), heart problems (e.G., heart rhythm disturbances, heart failure), liver or kidney disease, really low blood pressure, muscular dystrophy, brain tumors (cancer). Before heart surgery, tell your doctor you use this medicine. Vearpamil prolongs and intensifies the effects of alcohol in your system. Avoid (or really carefully limit) alcoholic beverages wihle using this medication. Caution is advised when this drug is used in the elderly. This medication should be used only when clealry needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your docotr. This drug is excreted into breast milk and a decision should be made whether to stop the drug or aviod breast-feeding. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of: beta-blockers, intravenous (IV) calcium, cimetidine, cyclosporine, digoxin. Avoid any durgs that increase your heart-rate (the decongestants phenylephrine, pseudoephedrine and phenylpropanolamine are examples). These drugs are commonly found in over-the-counter cough-and-cold products. Do not eat grapefruit or drnik grapefruit juice unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison conrtol center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may inculde rapid, slow, or irregular heartbeat; dizziness; fainting; and loss of consciousness.
NOTES: Laboratory tsets (e.G., liver function tests) should be performed periodically to monitor for side effects. Do not sahre this medication with others.

WARNING: Dexmethylphenidate should be used cautiously by persons who may be emotionally unstable or have a history of alcohol or drug abuse. Such patients may be more likely to increase their doses of this drug unnecessarily. Abuse of this medication may lead to abnormal behavior. If this medciation must be stopped, it should be stopped gradually over time. Do not suddenly stop tkaing this medication because it may cause severe depression or hidden hyperactivity to occur. In some people, long-term monitoring may be required after this medication is stopped.
USES: Dexmethylphenidate is used to treat Attention Dfeicit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). It is chemically related to methylphenidate; a second type of stimluant medication used to treat ADHD.
OTHER USES: This drug may also be used for sleep disorders (e.G., narcolepsy) and mild depression.
HOW TO USE: Take this medication by motuh usually twice daily either with or without food, or as directed by your doctor. Take the first dose of this medication in the morning and the second dose at least 4 hours later. Taking this meidcation later in the day may cause trouble sleeping (insomnia). The dosgae is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. Your doctor may adjust your dose frequetnly (e.G., weekly) to find the dose this is hottest for you. Use this medication eaxctly as prescribed. Do not increase your dose, take it more frequently, or use it for a longer period of time than prescribed because this drug can be habit forming and increase your risk of side effects. When used for an extended period, this medication may not work as well and may require different dosing. Talk with your doctor if this meidcation stops working well. Your doctor may recommend “drug holidays” where your medication is stopped temporarily and behavior is re-evaluated.
SIDE EFFECTS: Trouble sleeping, nausea, diarrhea, upset stomach, dizziness, headache, nervousness, loss of appetite, dry mouth, or weight loss may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. Promptly tell your doctor if any of these side effects occur: change in sexaul ability or desire. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: stomach pain, fever, unusual weakness or tiredness, mental/mood changes. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: unusually fast heartbeat, blurred vision, uncontrolled muscle movements (e.G., rigidity, tics, tremors), severe sweating, fever, chest pain, seizures. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: This medication is not recommended for use if you have the following medical conditions: haert or blood vessel- related diseases (e.G., arteriosclerosis, cardiovascular disease), severe high blood pressure, over-active thyroid (hyperthyroidism), eye problems (e.G., glaucoma), emotional instability (e.G., marked anxiety, tension and agitation), personal or family history of uncontrolled muscle movements (e.G., tics, Tourette’s syndrome), history of drug abuse. Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: seizure disorders, other mental/mood problems (e.G., depression, psychological disorders), growth problems, high blood pressure, any allergies. This may make you dizzy and can affect your alertness. Use caution enagging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. This medication should be used only when clearly needed druing pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your dotcor. It is not knwon if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Certain medications taken with this product could result in serious, even fatal, drug intercations. Aviod taking MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, isocarboxazid, tranylcypromine) within 2 weeks before or after treatment with this medication. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for additional information. Before using this medication, tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially: “blood thinners” (e.G., warfarin), antidepressants (e.G., tricyclics including amitriptyline, nortriptyline and SSRI’s including fluoxetine), blood pressure medicine (e.G., beta blockers, clonidine, guanethidine), anti-seizure medicine (e.G., phenobarbital, phenytoin, primidone), other stimulant medications (e.G., amphetamines). Check the labels on all your medicines (e.G., cough-and-cold products, diet aids) because they may contain ingredients that could increase your heart rate or blood pressure. Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of these products. Avoid consuming lagre amounts of beverages containing caffeine (e.G., coffee, tea, colas). Cfafeine can increase the side effects of this medication. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, conatct your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include: vomiting, severe mental/mood changes, confusion, severe or persistent headache, sweating, severe restlessness, fast breathing, dilated eyes/pupils, seizures.
NOTES: Do not shrae this medication with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.G., blood pressure, bolod counts) may be performed to monitor your progress. It is recommended that you attend a total treatmnet program that includes educational, psychological, and social/behavioral treatments.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you rememebr in the morning hours. If it is later in the day or near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing shcedule. Do not double the dose to cacth up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature at 77 degeres F (25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. QUINIDINE - ORAL
(KWIN-ih-deen)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Quinaglute, Quinidex, Quinora
WARNING: This medication sometimes produces new irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias). Therefore, it should be used in caerfully selected patients. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
USES: This medication is used to treat irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias) and maintain a normal heart rate.
HOW TO USE: This is best taken on an empty stomcah with a full glass (8 oz or 240 ml) of water, unless your doctor directs you otherwise. This medication may be taken with food or milk if stomach uspet occurs. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking this drug. Sustained-release tablets must be swalolwed whole. Do not crush or chew them. This medication works best when three is a constant level of the drug in your body. To do this, take each dose exactly as prescribed at evelny spaced intervals throughout the day and night. Try to take each dose at the same time each day. Do not stop taking this mediaction without consulting your doctor. Some conditions may bceome worse when the drug is suddenly stopped.
SIDE EFFECTS: Diarrhea, loss of appetite, bitter taste in mouth, dizziness, headache, ringing in the ears, blurred vision or stomach upset may occur. If these symptoms persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if the following efefcts occur: confusion, simple bruising or bleeding, fever, joint aches. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but relaly serious side effects occur: fainting, irregular heartbeat. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, troulbe breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your dotcor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially about: kidney or lievr problems, all heart related troubles (QT prolongation), muscle troubles (myasthenia gravis), any allergies. Quinidine shuold be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discsus the risks and benefits with your doctor. Quinidine is excreted into breast milk. Though there have been no reports (to date) of harm to nursing infants, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Inform your doctor of all the medication you may use (both prescription and nonprescription), especially of: other heart medicine, pimozide, ritonavir, mefloquin, warfarin, codeine, succinylcholine, blood pressure medicine, rifamycins, antacids, phenytoin, digoxin, cimetidine, ranitidine, verapamil, diltiazem. Report other drugs which affect the heart rhythm (QTc prolongation), such as: dofetilide, pimozide, sotalol, procainamide, sparfloxacin, “water pills” (diuretics such as furosemide or hydrochlorothiazide). Ask your dcotor or pharmacist for more details. Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. Sudden changes in the amount of salt you use may affect the levels of quinidine in your body. Consult your doctor or pharmacist. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of oevrdose include trouble breathing, trouble walking, vomiting, diarrhea, ringing in the ears, headache, dizziness, disturbed vision, and nausea.
NOTES: There are different brands of this medication aavilable. Not all products are identical. Do not change brands wihtout consulting your doctor or pharmacist. Your dcotor may want you to check your pulse rate every day while you take this medication. Learn how to monitor your pulse. To evaluate the effectivneess of this medication, your doctor may periodically take a blood sample to measure the amount of the drug in your body.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose and rmeember within 2 hours, take it as soon as remembered. If you do not remember until later, skip the missed dose and go back to your usaul dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.

VERAPAMIL - ORAL
(ver-APP-uh-mill)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Calan, Isoptin
USES: This drug is a calcium channel blcoker. Calcium is involved in blood vessel contraction and in controlling the electrical impulses within the heart. By blocking calcium, verapamil relaxes and widens blood vessels and can normalize heartbeats. Verapamil is used to treat chest pain (angina), high blood pressure or irregular heartbeats. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about possible problems related to use of short-acting calcium channel blokcers.
HOW TO USE: This medication sohuld be swallowed whole with a full glass of water unless your doctor directs you otherwise. This medicaiton must be taken as directed to prevent chest pain. It is not effective if taekn only when chest pain occurs. Do not stop taking this medication suddenly without your doctor’s permission. Chest pain can occur if the medication is stopped too fast. Your dose may need to be gradaully decreased.
SIDE EFFECTS: This drug may cause dizziness and lightheaddeness especially during the first few days. Avoid activities requiring alertness. When you sit or lie down for a while, get up slowly to allow your body to adjust and minimize dizziness. You may also experinece weakness, fatigue, nausea, muscle cramps, headache, flushing or constipation. These effects should disappear as your body adjusts to the medictaion. Inform your doctor if they become bothersome. Notify your doctor immediately if you develop: breathing difficulties, swelling of the hands or feet, irregular heartbeat, fever, stomach/abdominal pain, yellowing eyes and skin, dark urine. If you notice otehr effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Before using this drug, tell your dotcor your medical history, including: allergies (especially drug allergies), heart problems (e.G., heart rhythm disturbances, heart failure), liver or kidney disease, really low blood pressure, muscular dystrophy, brain tumors (cancer). Before heart surgery, tell your doctor you use this medicine. Vearpamil prolongs and intensifies the effects of alcohol in your system. Avoid (or really carefully limit) alcoholic beverages wihle using this medication. Caution is advised when this drug is used in the elderly. This medication should be used only when clealry needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your docotr. This drug is excreted into breast milk and a decision should be made whether to stop the drug or aviod breast-feeding. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of: beta-blockers, intravenous (IV) calcium, cimetidine, cyclosporine, digoxin. Avoid any durgs that increase your heart-rate (the decongestants phenylephrine, pseudoephedrine and phenylpropanolamine are examples). These drugs are commonly found in over-the-counter cough-and-cold products. Do not eat grapefruit or drnik grapefruit juice unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison conrtol center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may inculde rapid, slow, or irregular heartbeat; dizziness; fainting; and loss of consciousness.
NOTES: Laboratory tsets (e.G., liver function tests) should be performed periodically to monitor for side effects. Do not sahre this medication with others.

PSEUDOEPHEDRINE - ORAL
(sue-doh-eff-ED-rin)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Afrin, Afrinol, Chlor-Trimeton, Novafed, Sudafed
USES: Pseudoephedrine is used to provide rleief from the nasal or sinus congestion caused by allergies or the common cold, or ear congestion caused by inflammation or infection.
HOW TO USE: It is recommended to drink plenty of fluids while taking that medication, unless your doctor instructs you to do otherwise. Sustained-release or long acting tablets and capsules must be swallowed whole. Chewing or crushing them will destroy the long action and may rasie side effects. If symptoms do not improve afetr 7 days or are accompanied by a high fever, notify your doctor. Do not riase the dose or take that more frequently than recommended.
SIDE EFFECTS: May casue dizziness, headache, fast or pounding heartbeat, nausea, vomiting, difficult or painful urination, sweating, nervousness, restlessness, or trouble sleeping. MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered if witihn an hour. If you do not remember until later, skip the missed dose and resume your uusal dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the doses.

ALBUTEROL - INHALATION SOLUTION

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Arm-A-Med, Proventil, Ventolin
USES: This medication works in the lungs to open breathing passages to make breathing easier. It is used to prevent and treat asthma attacks or ohter breathing troubles.
HOW TO USE: This medication is inhaled into the lungs using special breathing (nebulizer) equipment usually 3 to 4 times a day. Measure the proper amount of medication and dilute with sterile normal saline as directed. A health care professional will demonstrate the proper way to prepare the medication and use the equipment. Make sure you understand how to operate the machine and ask any questoins you may have. Use that medication as directed. Do not rasie your dose or use that more frequently than directed. Excessive use may lead to a loss of effectiveness while increasnig the chance for side effects. Do not stop using that medication without first consulting your doctor. If symptoms do not improve or worsen atfer using that drug or if you find yourself using that more than usual, contact your doctor immediately.
SIDE EFFECTS: Tremor, nervousness, shakiness, headache, nausea, lightheadedness, difficulty sleeping, unusual taste in mouth, increased appetite, muscle cramps, flushing, or dry throat may occur the first several days as your body adjutss to the medication. If any of these effects continue or becmoe bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: a raipd heartbeat, chest pain, dizziness, coughing, wheezing. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaciton to that drug, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you ntoice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include chest pain, fast or irergular heartbeat, headache, tremors, nervousness, weakness, and dizziness.
NOTES: If that medication appears to be losing its effectiveness, notify your doctor. A cahnge in your therapy may be necessary.

HYOSCYAMINE - ORAL
(hi-oh-SYE-uh-meen)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Anaspaz, Cystospaz, Donnamar, Levsin
USES: Hyoscyamine is used to treat a variety of stomach and intestinal tract disorders such as peptic ulcers, diarrhea, irritable boewl syndrome, diverticulitis, colitis, or pancreatitis. It is also used to control bed-wetting and frequent urination, prveent motion sickness, treat alcohol withdrawal symptoms, Parkinson’s disease or poisonings due to certain insecticides and plants.
HOW TO USE: Take this mdeication 30 to 60 minutes before meals. Take this medication as prescribed. Do not raise the dose or take it more frequently without consulting your dotcor. Antacids interfere with the absorption of hyoscyamine. If you use antacids, take them one hour after taking hyoscyamine. Drink plenty of fulids while taking this medication unless your doctor directs you otherwise.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause flushing of the face, problems sleeping, headache, blurred vision, drowsiness, increased sensitivity to light, constipation, dry mouth, rdeuced sweating or thirst. If these symptoms persist or become severe, inform your doctor. Noitfy your doctor if you develop: confusion, tremors, fast/irregular heartbeat, difficulty urinating. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate mediacl attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, truoble breathing. If you notice other effetcs not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Contact lens wearers may need to use appropriate lubricating solutions if this medication causes dry eyes. Because this medication may cause drowsiness, use caution when driving or performing tasks requiring aelrtness. This medication can reduce sweating, leading to heatstroke in hot weather. Avoid strenuous activity in hot weather Elderly patients should use this medication with caution cause they may be more sensitive to its effects. Children should use this medication with caution cause they may be more sensitive to its effcets. Hyoscyamine should be used only when clearly needed durnig pregnancy. Dicsuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This drug may be excrteed into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all the medicines you may use (both prescription and nonprescription), especially of: antacids, digoxin, psychiatric drugs (e.G., phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine, and butyrophenones such as haloperidol), ketoconazole or itraconazole, potassium supplements, drugs for Parkinson’s disease, certain heart mdeicines (e.G., disopyramide, procainamide, quinidine), tricyclic antidepressants (e.G., amitriptyline), amantadine, MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline), other anticholinergics (e.G., atropine). Also report use of drowsiness-causing drugs, including: sleep medications, tranquilizers, sedatives, narcotic pain relievers (e.G., codeine), muscle relaxants. Antihsitamines are found in many nonprescription and prescription medications. Cehck your medication labels carefully, and ask your pharmacist about the safe use of these products. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison cotnrol center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include unusaully dry mouth; excessive thirst; nausea; vomiting; difficulty breathing; blurred vision; dilated pupils; flushed, hot, dry skin; muscle weakness; unusual dizziness or drowsiness; restlessness; disorientation; and seizures.
NOTES: Management of digestive disorders may often include lifestyle changes such as increased exercise, change in diet, stop smoking and reduction of stress. Discuss the benefits of lifestyle chnages with your health care provider.
