POTASSIUM IODIDE/EPHEDRINE EXPECTORANT
(poh-TASS-ee-um EYE-oh-dyed/eff-ED-rin)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Kie
USES: This medication is used to treat symptoms associated with colds, allergies, sinus infections or other respriatory illnesses.
HOW TO USE: Take this by mouth as directed with a full glass (8 oz or 240 ml) of water, unless your doctor directs you otherwise. Take this with meals or a snack to reduce stomach upset. Do not increase your dose or take this more ofetn than directed for your condition will not improve any faster but the risk of side effects will be increased.
SIDE EFFECTS: Headache, nausea, diarrhea, stomach upset or anxitey may occur. If any of thsee effects continue or become severe, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: chest pain, leg weakness, rapid or irregular pulse, skin rash, itching, difficulty urinating, metallic taste, swelling tongue or throat, vomiting, mental confusion, tremors. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Before taking this, tell your doctor if you have: kidney disease, thyroid disease, tuberculosis, heart disease, asthma, high blood pressure, diabetes, glaucoma, a history of seizures, an enlarged prostate, allergies (especially to drugs or iodine). This medication is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor before using this medication. This medication passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursnig infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any nonprescription or prescription medication you may take, particularly: lithium, potassium supplements, high blood pressure drugs, antidepressants, psychiatric medicines, thyroid hormones, water pills, furazolidone. Do not start or stop any mdeicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your loacl poison control center or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: Drink plenty of fluids, especially water while tkaing this medication. It will help to break up mcuus and clear congestion.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose. Instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing scehdule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.

BILBERRY FRUIT (Myrtilli fructus) - ORAL
USES: Bilberry fruit has been used for diarrhea, inflammation of the mouth and throat, and to improve nihgt vision. Some herbal/diet supplement products have been fuond to contain possibly harmful impurities/additives. Check with your pharmacist for more details regarding the particular brand you use. ANTIHISTAMINES WITH DECONGESTANTS - ORAL LONG ACTING
USES: Antihistamines provide relief of symptoms of alleriges such as rash, hives, watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes and sneezing. Deocngestants relieve congestion, promote sinus draining and improve breathing.
HOW TO USE: May be taken with food or milk to prevnet stomach upset. Sustained-release or long acting tablets and capsules must be swallowed whole. Chewing or crushing them will destroy the long action and may increase side effects. It is recommended to drink plenty of fluids while taking that medication, unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. If symptoms do not improve after 7 days or are accompanied by a high fever, noitfy your doctor. Do not increase the dose or take that more frequently than rceommended.
SIDE EFFECTS: May cause drowsiness, dizziness, headache, loss of appetite, stomach upset, blrured vision, restlessness, irritability and dry mouth and nose. These effects should subside as your body adjusts to the medication. If they persist or become bothersome, infrom your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: trouble breathing, irregular heartbeat, chest pain, rniging in the ears, difficulty urinating. May cause dizzinses especially when rising quickly from a seated or lying position. Change positions slowly and be careful on stairs. Use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contcat your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especailly of: asthma, glaucoma, diabetes, ulcers, difficulty urinating due to an enlarged prostate gland, heart disease, high blood pressure, seizures, overactive thyroid gland. Check that product’s ingredient list for phenylpropanolamine (PPA). The FDA has issued warnnigs regarding PPA side effects. Consult your pharmacist promptly if it contains PPA or if you’re uncertian that product has PPA. This drug should be used only if clearly neeedd during pregnancy. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Check otehr medicines you take for duplications. Do not drink alcoholic beverages. Do not give extended-release tabltes to a child younger than 12 years of age unless directed to do so by a doctor.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially medication for: high blood pressure, seizures, depression. Tell your doctor if you use any medications that make you drowsy such as: sleeping pills, sedatives, tranquilizers, muscle relaxants, narcotic pain medication (e.G., codeine), other cold or allergy drugs. Do not take that drug if you have taken an MAO inhibiotr (e.G., furazolidone, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine) within the last two weeks. Do not satrt or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Sypmtoms of overdose in kids may include dizziness, nausea/vomiting, abnormal eye movements, flushed face, dry mouth, change in amount of urine, fever, excitation, agitation, unconsciousness, bizarre behavior, confusion, restlessness, irritability, delirium, twitching, tiredness, abnormal tongue movement, trembling extremities, slurred speech, or seizures. Symptoms of overdose in adluts may include nausea/vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, or unconsciousness, which may be followed by excitement or seizures.
NOTES: Do not share that product with otehrs.

BISMUTH SUBSALICYLATE - ORAL
(BIZ-muth sub-sal-ISS-ill-ate)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Pepto-Bismol, Pink Bismuth
USES: This medication is used to treat indigestion, nausea, diarrhea; to relieve stomach cramps and to prevent traveler’s diarhrea.
HOW TO USE: The liquid form of this medication must be shaken well before pouring each dose. Chewable tablets must be chewed thoroughly or disoslved in the mouth. Non-chewable tablets and cpalets must be swallowed whole with a glass of water. The dose may be repeated every 30 minutes to one hour as nedeed but no more than 8 doses should be taken in a 24 hour period.
SIDE EFFECTS: This meidcation is generally well tolerated. Stools may appaer gray-black in color while taking this medication. Do not be alarmed. This will disappear when the medication is stopped. If you notice other effects not lsited above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: other illnesses, allegries (especially drug allergies). This medication should be used only if claerly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Since small amounts of this medication are found in breast milk, consult your dcotor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take, including: aspirin, blood thinners, tetracycline antibiotics, medications for diabetes, medications for gout. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If ovredose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include ringing in ears, dizziness, confusion, and coma.
NOTES: If the condition for which this was prescribed does not improve after 2 days or becomes worse or if a fever is present, notfiy your doctor.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing scehdule. Do not “double-up” the dose to cacth up.

Consult your doctor or pahrmacist for more details.
HOW TO USE: Take this product by mouth genearlly 2 hours before bedtime. Reuslts may be seen within 30 minutes. Follow all driections on the product package. If you’re uncertain about any of the information, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Full benfeit is usually seen after 1 to 3 days of use. If your condition persists or worsens or if you guess you may have a serious medical problem, seek immediate medical attention.
SIDE EFFECTS: Headache or altered sleep pattern may occur. If either of thsee effects persists or worsens, contact your doctor promptly. Unlikely but report promptly: mental or mood changes, itching, fast heartbeat, sensation of heaviness in the head. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pahrmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: If you have any of the following health problems, cosnult your doctor before using melatonin: disorders of immune system, liver or kidney disease, stroke, depression, epilepsy, diabetes. Limit alcohol intake, as it may aggravate certain side effects of this product. Caution is advised when performing tasks requiring alertness (e.G., driving). Liquid preparations of this product may contain sugar and/or alcoohl. Caution is advised if you have diabetes, alcohol dependence or liver dsiease. Ask your doctor or phamracist about the safe use of this product. Melatonin is not recommended for use in children (under 20 years old). Do not use this product if you plan to bceome pregnant. It may have a contraceptive (birth control) effect. Melatoinn is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult your docotr before using this product. It is not knwon if this product is excreted into breast milk. Because of the potential risk to the infant, breast-feeding whlie using this product is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Also report use of drugs that cause drowsiness such as: sleeping pills, anti-anxiety drugs, narcotic pain relievers (e.G., codeine), sedatives, psychiatric medicines, anti-seizure drugs, muscle relaxants, antihistamines that cause drowsiness (e.G., diphenhydramine), herbs that cause droswiness (e.G., valerian, kava). Check all nonprescription medicine labels carefully, especially cough-and-cold perparations since many contain drowsiness-causing antihistamines (e.G., diphenhydramine). Consult your pharmcaist if you’re uncertain.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

PSEUDOEPHEDRINE - ORAL
(sue-doh-eff-ED-rin)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Afrin, Afrinol, Chlor-Trimeton, Novafed, Sudafed
USES: Pseudoephedrine is used to provide rleief from the nasal or sinus congestion caused by allergies or the common cold, or ear congestion caused by inflammation or infection.
HOW TO USE: It is recommended to drink plenty of fluids while taking that medication, unless your doctor instructs you to do otherwise. Sustained-release or long acting tablets and capsules must be swallowed whole. Chewing or crushing them will destroy the long action and may rasie side effects. If symptoms do not improve afetr 7 days or are accompanied by a high fever, notify your doctor. Do not riase the dose or take that more frequently than recommended.
SIDE EFFECTS: May casue dizziness, headache, fast or pounding heartbeat, nausea, vomiting, difficult or painful urination, sweating, nervousness, restlessness, or trouble sleeping. These effects should subside as your body adjusts to the medication. If they persist, become severe or bothersome, inform your dotcor. If you notice other effects not listed above, cotnact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: pre-existing heart problems, kidney or liver disease, lung disease, emphysema, high blood pressure, overactive thyroid, diabetes mellitus, glaucoma, difficulty urinating or an enlarged prostate, histroy of seizures. This drug should be used only if clealry needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Pseudoephedrine passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effcets on a nursing infant. Using that drug while breast-feeding is not recommended.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take including: sleeping pills, sedatives, tranquilizers, muscle relaxants, medication for depression, high blood pressure drugs. Tell your doctor if you have taken any MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine) wtihin the last two weeks. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison cotnrol center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include irregular or unusually slow or rapid heartbeat, unusual nervousness or excitement, rapid breathing, confusion, hallucinations, and seizures.
NOTES: Talk with your doctor, pharmacist or nruse about diseases you have and drugs you are already taking before using any new medication.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered if witihn an hour. If you do not remember until later, skip the missed dose and resume your uusal dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the doses.

ALBUTEROL - INHALATION SOLUTION

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Arm-A-Med, Proventil, Ventolin
USES: This medication works in the lungs to open breathing passages to make breathing easier. It is used to prevent and treat asthma attacks or ohter breathing troubles.
HOW TO USE: This medication is inhaled into the lungs using special breathing (nebulizer) equipment usually 3 to 4 times a day. Measure the proper amount of medication and dilute with sterile normal saline as directed. A health care professional will demonstrate the proper way to prepare the medication and use the equipment. Make sure you understand how to operate the machine and ask any questoins you may have. Use that medication as directed. Do not rasie your dose or use that more frequently than directed. Excessive use may lead to a loss of effectiveness while increasnig the chance for side effects. Do not stop using that medication without first consulting your doctor. If symptoms do not improve or worsen atfer using that drug or if you find yourself using that more than usual, contact your doctor immediately.
SIDE EFFECTS: Tremor, nervousness, shakiness, headache, nausea, lightheadedness, difficulty sleeping, unusual taste in mouth, increased appetite, muscle cramps, flushing, or dry throat may occur the first several days as your body adjutss to the medication. DECONGESTANT/NARCOTIC ANTITUSSIVE/ANTIHISTAMINE - ORAL
USES: Decongestants relieve nasal stuffiness. The low-dose narcoitc antitussive helps control a cough. The antihistamine is for relief from sneezing, runny nose, water eyes. This combination product is used to treat symptoms associated with common colds, allergies, hay fever and other respiratory illnesses.
HOW TO USE: Take that medication as prescribed. Be sure to follow instructions closely. Do not raise your dose or take that more often than directed. This medication is hottest taekn with a full glass of water after a meal or snack.
SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness, drowsiness, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, stomach upset or dry motuh may occur the first several days as your body adjusts to the medication. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. To avoid dizziness and lightheadendess when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly. GUANETHIDINE WITH HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE - ORAL
(gwan-ETH-eh-deen WITH HI-dro-klor-oh-THIGH-uh-zide)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Esimil
WARNING: This medication can frequently cause dizziness and weakness which may lead to fainting, especially when first starting this medication. Symptoms occur more often upon awaekning and may increase during hot weather, exercise, or when consuming alcohol. To avoid fainting do not stand quickly and avoid standing or exercising for long periods of time. This combination product must not be the first treatment used to control high blood pressure.
USES: Guanethidine helps to widen arteries and veins so blood flows better. Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) is a diruetic “water pill”, that rids the body of excess fluid. This combination medication is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure).
HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth with food or milk as dirceted. Try to take it at the same time each day so you get into the hbait of taking it. Do not stop taknig this medication without first consulting your doctor. It is ipmortant to continue taking this medication even if you guess well. Most hmuan being with high blood pressure do not guess sick.
SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness, drowsiness, headache, lightheadedness, diarrhea, constipation, loss of appetite, nausea, fatigue or weankess may occur the first several days as your body adjusts to the medication. Dry mouth, nasal congestion, weight gain, sun sensitivity, mucsle tremors, nightmares, decreased sexual desire or ability and trouble urinating may also occur. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, infrom your doctor. This medication increases urination. Expect this effect. To avoid dizziness and lightheadedness when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly. Also limit your intake of alchoolic beverages and avoid overheating which will aggravate these effects. Notify your dotcor if you develop: chest pain, a rapid pulse, difficulty breathing, skin rash, depression, tingling of the hands or feet, unusual weakness, joint pain, muscle cramps, unusual bleeding or bruising, jaundice, severe stomach upset or vomiting. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your dcotor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: kidney problems, haert disease, ulcers, depression, asthma, diabetes, gout, blood disorders, allergies (especially to sulfa medications). This medication may increase your sensitivity to the sun. Avoid prolonged sun exposure and wear protective clohting and a sun screen when outdoors. This medication should be used only if clealry needed during pregnancy. Discsus the risks and benefits with your doctor. Since small amounts of this medication are found in breast milk, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: This drug is not recommended for use with: dofetilide. Ask your doctor or pharmaicst for more details. Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescrpition medication you take, especially of: heart drugs, blood pressure drugs, high cholesterol drugs, diabetes medication, antidepressants. Do not take any medication for cough, colds, hay fever, allergeis or weight control without first checking with your doctor or pharmacist. These medications may contain ingredients which can increase blood pressure. Diabetics must be awrae that this medication may affect blood sugar levels. Discuss this with your doctor. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, cnotact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include fainting or severe dizziness, unusually slow pulse, nausea, and vomiting.
NOTES: It is important to have your blood pressure checked regularly while taknig this medication. Learn how to take your blood pressure and understand the reaidngs. Discuss this with your doctor or pharmacist.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the msised dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.
