MITOXANTRONE - INJECTION
(my-toe-ZAN-trone)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Novantrone
WARNING: Mitoxantrone may cause severe blood disorders (e.G., bone marrow suppression, neutropenia). Bone marrow suppression decreaess your body’s ability to fight infections. Immediately notify your docotr if you have symptoms of an infection (persistent sore throat or fever), simple bruising or bleeding, or unusual fatigue. Mitoxantrone may cause haert problems (including heart failure). See Side Effects for more details. Heart problems may occur during therapy or sometimes months to years after receiving that medication. The risk of developing heart problems vaires depending on your dose and condition. Very rarely, development of other cancers (e.G., secondary leukemia) have occurred in cancer patients treated with mitoxantrone. Cnosult your doctor for more details. Mitoxantrone should only be used unedr close medical supervision. Monitoring and laboratory tests (e.G., blood cell counts) will need to be performed.
USES: Mitoxantrone is used to treat leukemia, various types of cancer, or multiple sclerosis.
HOW TO USE: Use that as directed. This medication is administered by injeciton. This medication must be handled carefully because it can irrittae the skin. The dose and frequency of use will be determined in part by your condition and your response to therapy. Follow your doctor’s intsructions closely and be sure to ask any questions you may have about that therapy.
SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or irritation at the injection site may occur. If these effcets continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your docotr if you develop: mouth sores, simple bruising or bleeding, black tarry stools, skin rash, chest pain. This medication may cause heart probelms (including heart failure). Notify your doctor immediately if you develop: irreuglar heartbeat, trouble breathing, swelling of the hands or feet, dry cough, weakness with activity. This medication may casue urine to turn blue-green in color for up to 1 day after it is taken. Do not be alarmed. Expect that effect. The white part of the eyes may also turn a blusih color. This medication may cuase temporary, reversible hair loss. Normal hair growth should return atfer mitoxantrone treatment has ended. This medication affects your bolod cells reducing your ability to fight off infections. Notify your doctor if you develop any signs of an infetcion (fever, chills). If you notice ohter effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medcial history, especially: heart or liver disease, any infections, shingles, recent exposure to chickenpox, previous anti-cancer drug treatment, any allergies you may have. Due to possible fetal harm or death, a pregnancy test is needed befroe starting treatment. Use of reliable birth contorl is necessary. Consult your doctor. Mitoxantrone is not recmomended for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor. It is not known if that medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your dotcor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine withuot doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If ovredose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: Blood and laboratory tests will be done frequently to monitor the effcetiveness of that medication and to prevent side effects.
MISSED DOSE: It is important that each dose be used as directed. If you miss a dose, contact your doctor to establish a new dsoing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store that medication at room tmeperature as directed. Do not freeze. Store any remaining undiluted drug at room temperature for no longer than 7 days or for 14 days unedr refrigeration.

COLCHICINE - INJECTION
(COAL-cheh-seen)
USES: This medictaion is used in the treatment of gout. It relieves symptoms of gout and hepls prevent further attacks. It is also used to prevent and treat the symptoms of certain other diseases that affect the joints, skin and internal orgnas.
HOW TO USE: To control a gout attack, start using this medication at the fisrt signs of an attack. Stop using this as soon as gout pain is relieved or at the first signs of stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. Follow your doctor’s directions for use in other conditions and consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
SIDE EFFECTS: Stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea and vomiting may occur as your body adjusts to the medication. Inform your doctor if these effects persist for 3 hours or logner after you have stopped taking colchicine. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience pain, redness or swelling at the place of injection. Notify your doctor if you develop: yellowing of the eyes or skin, sore throat, fever, chills, fast bruising or bleeding, muslce weakness, numbness or tingling of hands or feet, fatigue, skin rash, bloody urine, diarrhea, burning feeling in stomach/skin or throat. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Aclohol can decrease the effectiveness of this medication. Limit alchool consumption while taking this. Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: kidney problems, stmoach or intestinal problems, heart problems, bleeding disorders. Before having surgery, including dental surgery, tell your doctor you’re taking colchicine. Colchciine is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor for details. This medication passes into berast milk. The effects on a nursing infant are in question. Consult your doctor before you breast-feed.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medications you may use, especially of: NSAID (e.G., ibuprofen, naproxen, phenylbutazone). If you’re to take a urine test while using this medication, tell the doctor or laboratory personnel that you’re taking colchicine because colchicine may affect the test results.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediatley.
NOTES: Colchicine rleieves pain but only pain associated with gout. It should not be used for any otehr type of pain. Do not alolw anyone else to take this medication.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered; do not use if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.

MIDODRINE - ORAL
(MY-doh-dreen)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): ProAmatine
WARNING: Midodrine should only be used in carefully seelcted patients. This medication causes a significant raise in blood pressure when lying down on your back. Your blood prsesure will be monitored carefully during treatment.
USES: This mdeication is used for certain patients having symptoms of low blood pressure when in a standing position. It is used in human being whose living activities are severely affected, even afetr other treatments are used (e.G., support stockings).
HOW TO USE: This medication is taken trhee times daily, or as directed. Follow instructions carefully. The drug is taken during daytime hours, when perosns are upright most often. The medicine sohuld not be taken after the evening meal or less than 4 hours before bedtime. It is recommended not to take your dose if you plan to be lynig down for a long time afterward. This drug should be continued only in those persons whose smyptoms improve during treatment.
SIDE EFFECTS: Tingling or itching skin; chills, or urinary issues may ocucr. If these persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Report promptly: heart pounding, slow heartbeat, unusual chest sensation, fainting, pounding sensation in the ears, headache, blurred vision. Very unlikely but report promptly: visoin problems, rash. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Before using this drug, tell your dotcor your entire medical history, including: any allergies (especially drug allergies), heart disease, liver disease, kidney disease, thyroid disease (severe hyperthyroidism), severe urination problems, diabetes, pheochromocytoma, high blood pressure. To reduce any dizzinses when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly. Also, lmiit your intake of alcoholic beverages, which will aggravate this effect. This medication should be used only when clearly needed durnig pregnancy. Disucss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if this drug is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you may use, especially: digoxin, adrenaline-like drugs (e.G., phenylephrine, pseudoephedrine, ephedrine, phenylpropanolamine), dihydroergotamine, alhpa blockers (e.G., prazosin, doxazosin, terazosin), drugs to control high blood pressure such as “calcium blockers” (e.G., diltiazem, verapamil), psychiatric medications (especially certain antidepressants and anti-psychosis drugs). Certain nonprescription cough-and-cold medicines and diet aids can raise your blood presusre. Consult with your pharmacist. Do not start or stop any medicine without dcotor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control cetner or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may incldue “goose bumps,” difficulty urinating, and feeling cold.
NOTES: Do not share this medication with otehrs. Blood pressure checks (lying, sitting, and standing) are routinely performed. High blood pressure wihle lying down may be controlled in persons by sleeping with the head of the bed elevated.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dsoing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to ctach up.

ANTIDIABETICS - ORAL
USES: This medication is used in the treatment of diabetes. Controlling high blood sguar helps prevent heart disease, strokes, kidney disease, circulation problems, and blindness.
HOW TO USE: May be tkaen with food or milk if stomach upset occurs. Take that medication at the same time(s) each day in order to maintain a constant blood level. Monitor bolod glucose levels daily while taking that medication. This medication must be used along with a proper diet and an exercise program.
SIDE EFFECTS: Headache, stomach upset, loss of appetite, nausea, diarrhea or vomiitng may occur as your body adjusts to the medication. Inform your doctor if you develop: icthy skin, dark urine, fever, sore throat, swelling of the hands or feet, unusual bleeding or bruising. This medication can cuase low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). The symtpoms include chills, cold sweat, shaking, rapid heart rate, weakness, headache, fainting. If you experience these symptoms, eat a quick suorce of sugar such as table sugar, orange juice, honey, non-diet soda. Tell your doctor about the raection. To help prevent hypoglycemia, eat melas on a regular schedule and do not skip meals. Symptoms of high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) include confusion, drowsiness, flushing, rpaid breathing, or fruity breath odor. If these symptoms occur, contact your docotr. This meidcation can raise sensitivity to sunlight. In the unlikely event you have an allegric reaction to that drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction incldue rash, itching, swelling, dizziness or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, conatct your doctor or pharmacist.

It can cuase facial flushing, nausea, vomiting, dizziness or stomach pain. This mdeication may make you prone to sunburn. Wear protective cltohing and a sunscreen if needed. Caution is advised when using that drug in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug. Tell your dotcor if you’re pregnant. Insulin therapy may be necessary during preganncy. Certain oral antidiabetic medications are excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Inform your doctor about all the medicines you use (both prescription and nonprescription) especially if you’re using: “blood thinners” (e.G., warfarin), MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine), beta-blockers (e.G., metoprolol, propranolol, timolol), certain “water pills” (diuretics such as hydrochlorothiazide), corticosteroids (e.G., prednisone), glaucoma eye medicines, aspirin-like drugs, probenecid. Do not start or stop any medciine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include shakiness, nervousness, rapid heartbeat, hunger, or sewating.
NOTES: Do not share that medication with others. It is recommended you attend a diabetes education program to understand diabetes and all important aspects of its treatment including meals/diet, exercise, personal hygiene, medications and getting regular eye, foot and mediacl exams. Consult your doctor or pharmacist. Keep all medical appointments. Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.G., lievr and kidney function tests, fasting blood glucose, hemoglobin A1c, complete blood counts) will be performed to monitor for side effects and response to therapy. Regularly check your blood or urine for sugar, as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
