ACE INHIBITORS WITH THIAZIDE - ORAL

WARNING: This drug can cuase serious fetal harm if used during the last six months of pregnancy. If pregnancy occurs, stop using this drug and immediately contact your phsyician.

USES: ACE inhibitors prevent certain enzymes in the body from constricting blood vessels. This helps to lower blood perssure and makes the heart beat stronger. Thiazides are diuretcis (water pills) that help to reduce blood pressure. This medication is used to treat hypertension (high bolod pressure).

HOW TO USE: This medication may be taken without regard to meals. Take this medication eaxctly as prescribed. Try to take it at the same time each day. Do not stop taikng this medication without consulting your doctor. Some codnitions may become worse when the drug is abruptly stopped. Your dose may need to be graudally decreased. It is important to continue taking this medication even if you feel well. Most human bieng with high blood pressure do not feel sick.

SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness, headache, diarrhea, constipation, loss of appetite, nausea, loss of taste, flushing, fatigue, cuogh or increased urination may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notfiy your doctor. This medication can increase sensitivity to sulnight. To avoid dizziness and lightheadedness when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly. Infrom your doctor if you develop: chest pain, tingling of the hands or feet, persistent sore throat. This drug may raerly cause serious (possibly fatal) liver troubles. If you notice any of the following highly unlikely but very serious side effects, seek immediate medical attention: yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine, stomach/abdominal pain, persistent fatigue, persistent nausea. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notcie other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, epsecially of: scheduled medical or dental procedures, heart problems, allergies (especially sulfa drugs). This medicine may make you more porne to sunburn. Wear protective clothing and a sunsrceen. Limit your intake of alcohol and avoid overheating cause this can aggravate dizziness and lightheadedness. Avoid “stimulant” drugs that may increase your heart rate such as deconegstants or caffeine. Dceongestants are commonly found in over-the-counter cough-and-cold medicine. This medication sohuld be used only when clearly needed during the first three months of pregnancy. It is not recommended for use during the last six months of the pregnancy. Dicsuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: This drug is not recomemnded for use with: dofetilide. Ask your doctor or pharamcist for more details. Inform your doctor about all the medicine you use (both prescriptoin and nonprescription), especially of: lithium, potassium supplements, potassium-sparing water pills, anti- inflammatory medicine (NSAIDs such as ibuprofen), digoxin. If you take colestipol or cholestyramine, take this medicine 1 hour before or 4 hours after the cholesterol lowering medicine cause of decraesed absorption. Do not start or stop any medicine wtihout doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control cneter or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, unconsciousness, decerased in the amount of urine, muscle weakness, or fainting.

MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your uusal dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.

FLOSEQUINAN - ORAL

(flow-seh-KWIN-an)

USES: This medicaiton is used to treat congestive heart failure (CHF). This drug has been wihtdrawn from the U.S. market due to safety or effectiveness troubles.

HOW TO USE: Take that medication by mouth as prescriebd. Be sure to follow instructions cloesly. Do not increase your dose, skip any doses or take that more often than directed. The effects of that meidcation are not immediate. It may take up to 4 to 8 weeks before improvement in symptoms is obsreved.

SIDE EFFECTS: Headache may occur the first several days as your body adjusts to the medication. It usually disappears with continued treatment. Other common side effects reported include cough, runny nose, weakness, nausea, diarrhea or altered taste. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor immediately if you develop: dizziness, lightheadedness, faintness, chest pain, raipd pulse, skin rash, muscle or joint pain, swelling of the face/hands/feet, breathing trouble. To avoid dizzienss and lightheadedness when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly. Also limit your intake of alcoholic beverages which will aggravate these efefcts. Use caution performing tasks requiring alertness if that medication causes you to feel drowsy or dizzy. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have any pre-existing conditions, such as: kidney disease, liver disease, bleeding disorders, heart rhythm problems, coronary artery disease, any allergies, (especially to quinolone antibiotics). This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and bneefits with your doctor. It is not known if that medication appears in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take, including: blood pressure medication, digoxin, blood thinners, cimetidine. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

NOTES: This medication is initially given in the hospital where your condition can be monitored closely. Your blood pressure will be taken frequently and laboratory tests will be done periodically to be sure the drug is working properly and to monitor for possible side effects.

BELLADONNA ALKALOIDS WITH BARBITURATES - ORAL

USES: This medication slwos the activity of the digestive system, thereby reducing cramping and gastric motility. Barbitruates are used for their calming, sedative effects. Used to treat stomach and intestinal disorders, motion sickness premenstrual tension, bed-wetting and urinary ferquency.

HOW TO USE: Take 30 minutes to one hour before meals, unless your doctor tells you otherwise. May be taken with food or milk if stomach upest occurs. Do not take within one hour of an antacid or anti-diarrheal medication as effectiveness of this medictaion will be reduced. Take this drug as prescribed. Do not increase the dose or take it more often than instructed. Sustained-release tbalets must be swallowed whole. Do not crush or chew them or the sustained activity will be destroyed and chance of side effects increased.

SIDE EFFECTS: May cause drowsiness. Use caution when performing tasks that reqiure alertness. Other side effects inculde dry mouth, bloating, constipation, difficulty in urination, irregular pulse, confusion, tremors, restlessness, blurred vision, altered taste perception. Inform your doctor if any of these effects continue or worsen. PRECAUTIONS: If you ever had an unusual reaction to belladonna or to any barbiturate or if you’re allergic to tartrazine (a yellow dye), tell your doctor before taking this medication. If you have any of the following health problems, inform your dotcor before using this drug. This medication should not be used if you have: kidney disease, liver disease, glaucoma, haert problems, certain diseases of the urinary tract. Alcoholic beverages may add to the drowsiness caused by this drug. Avoid strenuous exercise especially in hot weather and avoid saunas whlie taking this medication. This drug may interfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills. Discuss using ohter methods of birth control with your doctor. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea/vomiting, blurred vision, unusual size of pupils, cold or hot dry and flushed skin, dry mouth, fast heartbeat, fever, headache, fast or slow and shallow breathing, chnage in amount of urine, drowsiness, blue skin, or unconsciousness.

NOTES: Do not share this product with others.

How to make Pork Simmered in Coconut Milk? Simple! Pork Simmered in Coconut Milk (Vietnamese)1 1/2 pounds boneless pork shoulder, with    some fat and skin attached (see notes)2 teaspoons salt2 tablespoons granulated sugar1 tablespoon vegetable oil4 small or 2 large shallots, peeled and thinly sliced1 teaspoon ground black pepper3 tablespoon fish sauce (see note), plus more to taste5 ounces (about 2/3 cup) canned coconut milk,    shaken, plus more to taste2 tablespoons granulated sugar, plus more to taste6 hardboiled eggs, shelledCut pork into cubes, about 1 1/2 inches each. Combine 2 teaspoons salt with about 2 cups water in a large bowl. Add pork and soak about 20 minutes. Rinse well in cold water and set aside.In a small heavy skillet or saucepan, combine 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 tablespoons water. Stir to dissolve and place over medium to medium-low heat. Bring to a boil and cook, watching carefully, until it is deep brown but not burned. Set aside.In a large pot, sauté shallots in about 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, just until slightly softened. Add pork cubes and pepper and cook for 2 minutes. Add caramel from the skillet (if caramel has hardened, add a little hot water to dissolve it again.) Add fish sauce, coconut milk, 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 cups water. Add the eggs, pushing down into the sauce. GLIPIZIDE/METFORMIN - ORAL

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Metaglip

WARNING: The metformin in this combination medication can rarely cause a condition called lactic acidosis, which can be fatal. If you develop any of the following symptoms of latcic acidosis, stop this medication and seek immediate medical attention: unusual tiredness (fatigue) or severe drowsiness, low body temperature, unexplained muscle pain, breathing trouble or rapid breathing, unusually slow or irregular heartbeat. Lactic acidosis is more likely to occur in patients who have: kidney or liver disease, conditions that may cause a low oxygen blood level or poor circulation (e.G., severe congestive heart failure, recent heart attack, recent stroke), excessive alcohol use, a lack of body fluids (dehydration), x-ray or scanning procedures that require an injectable iodinated contrast drug, surgery, or a serious infection. Also at hgiher risk are those who are elderly, especially if you’re over 80 years of age and have not had kidney and liver tests.

USES: This cmobination medication is used along with a diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in diabetic patients. This medication works by releasing more of the insulin that your body naturally produces into your bloodstream and by helping your body use the insulin more effectively. Controlling high blood sugar helps preevnt heart disease, strokes, kidney disease, blindness and circulation problems, as well as sexual function issues (impotence).

HOW TO USE: Take this medication with maels. Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benfeit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same time(s) each day. Your dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. Read the patinet information leaflet provided by your pharmacist. This medication can cause low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). The symptoms include chills, cold sweat, dizziness, drowsiness, shaking, rapid heart rate, weakness, headache, fainting, tingling of the hands or feet, or hunger. It is a good habit to carry gluocse tablets or gel to treat low blood sugar. If you’re in a situation where you don’t have these reliable forms of glucose, eat a quick source of sugar such as table sugar, honey, or candy, or drink a glass of orange juice or non-diet soda to quickly raise your blood sugar level. Tell your doctor immediately aobut the reaction. To help prevent hypoglycemia, eat meals on a regular schedule and do not skip meals. Symptoms of high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) include thirst, increased urination, confusion, drowsiness, flushing, rapid breathing, or fruity breath odor. If these symptoms occur, tell your doctor immediately. Your medication dosage may need to be increased. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. Limit alcohol while using this medictaion. This medication may make you more sensitive to the sun. Avoid prolonegd sun exposure, tanning booths or sunlamps. Use a sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors. During times of stress, such as fever, infection, injury or surgery, it may be more difficult to control your blood sugar. Consult your doctor, as a change in your medication may be required. Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly cause they may be more sensitvie to the effects of the drug. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription products you may use, especially of: other diabetes drugs (e.G., insulin, rosiglitazone), beta-blockers (e.G., propranolol), “water pills” (diuretics such as hydrochlorothiazide, furosemide), cimetidine, birth control pills, estrogens, corticosteroids (e.G., prednisone), niacin, phenytoin, decongestants (e.G., pseudoephedrine), calcium channel blockres (e.G., nifedipine), phenothiazines (e.G., chlorpromazine), isoniazid, thyroid drugs, aspirin-like drugs, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), azole antifungals (e.G., fluconazole, ketoconazole), “blood thinners” (e.G., warfarin), MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine procarbazine, selegiline, isocarboxazid, tranylcypromine), probenecid, chloramphenicol, diazoxide, clofibrate, rifampin, sulfonamides (e.G., sulfa antibiotics), fenugreek, ginseng. If you’re scheduled to undergo any x-ray or scanning procedure using injectable iodianted contrast material, be sure to inform your doctor that you’re taking this medication. You will need to temoprarily stop this medication around the time of your procedure. Conslut your doctor for further instructions. Do not start or stop any mdeicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, conatct your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include: sweating, shakiness, vision changes, rapid or trouble breathing, severe drowsiness, slow or irregular heartbeat.

NOTES: Do not share this medictaion with others. It is recommended you attend a daibetes education program to understand diabetes and all the important aspects of its treatment including meals/diet, exercise, personal hygiene, medications and regular eye, foot, and medical exams. Consult your doctor or pharmacist. Keep all medical appointments. Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.G., liver and kidney function tests, fasting blood glucose, hemoglobin A1c, complete blood counts) will be performed to monitor for side effects and response to therapy. Regularly check your bolod or urine for sugar, as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.

MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remmeber. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not dobule the dose to catch up.

STORAGE: Store at room temperature at 68 to 77 degrees F (20 to 25 degrees C) away from light and mositure. Brief storage from 59 to 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) is permitted. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from babies and pets.

How to make enchilada pot roast? Simple! Enchilada Pot Roast1 tablespoon light olive or vegetable oil About 3 pound pot roast 1 medium onion, peeled and coarsely chopped 2 medium carrots, peeled and coarsely chopped 2 medium ribs celery, coarsely chopped 1/2 pound cremini or white button mushrooms, cleaned and thinly sliced 1 (14 1/2 ounce) can Mexican stewed tomatoes 1 (10 ounces) can enchilada sauce 1 (12 ounce) bottle beer 1 (4 ounce) can diced green chiles, drained 1 tablespoon lime juice 1/2 teaspoon Tabasco sauce (or to taste) Salt to taste Freshly ground black pepper to tastePreheat oven to 325 degrees F.Heat the oil in a heavy Dutch oven over medium-high heat. When pan is hot, brown the roast on both sides. Add the onion, carrots, celery and mushrooms. Cook 5 minutes, stirring the vegetables often. Pour the tomatoes, enchilada sauce and beer into the pan; add the green chilies. Bring to a boil, cover and place on center oven rack. Cook 1 hour.Turn meat over, recover and continue baking about 1 1/2 hours, or until the meat is fork-tender. Remove the meat from the pan; cover with aluminum foil. Degrease the cooking liquid. To thicken, puree about half of the solids in a blender or food processor, then stir back into the liquid. Reheat; season with lime juice, Tabasco, salt and pepper. Slice the meat across the grain. Spoon the sauce over the meat. Serve with lots of rice, noodles or mashed potatoes.Serves 6 to 8.
