Here is the Best Way to Learn Spanish

September 18th, 2008 by danny463

Here is the best way to learn Spanish that I have found. I have studied both Spanish and Chinese and speak both relatively well. The method I’m about to share here I came across when studying Chinese. It worked so well for me that I can speak Chinese quite fluently and natives do not know I’m an American when they are talking to me on the phone or can’t see me.

This method should be applied on every new vocabulary word you learn. It is by far the best way to learn Spanish, or any other language for that matter.

First, identify the word you want to learn. A typical lesson in a course will have 10 to 30 new words per lesson, so you will want to do this for each word.

You will need an audio recording of the word alone and spoken in a sentence. It should be a recording of a native speaker.

Listen to the audio recording of the word and repeat it. Keep doing this until you feel that you are able to pronounce the word fluently and naturally.

Now, listen to the word as it is spoken in the sentence in the audio recording. Keep listening to and repeating the sentence until it comes out of your mouth fluently and effortlessly. It may take a little time, but as soon as you hear the words come out of your mouth so beautifully and effortlessly, you will see why this is the best way to learn Spanish.

Once you can do this, then go on to the next word. This method takes a lot of time and devotion but it works.

My Chinese teacher was an old lady that would criticize me when I made mistakes while speaking. I was so afraid of speaking incorrectly around her that I developed this method. Each lesson in the book had a text that went along with it. Using this method, I would go through the text, sentence by sentence until I could read the text from beginning to end fluently and beautifully. I began to blow her away after a few lessons of reading the text like a native.

This is by far the best way to learn Spanish as well. The only problem with using this method is that it can be hard finding audio recordings of the words you want to learn when you want learn them. I’m currently developing systems for both Spanish and Chinese. They will not be full-blown courses, but rather vocabulary-building programs that should be compliments to a proper language course. I didn’t start learning Chinese until I was 27 and my pronunciation is flawless.

You can here a recording of me speaking Chinese and Spanish at this article I wrote offering my Spanish Vocab Pro program for free as a Rocket Spanish Bonus

Meeting Norman Cousins - His Words For Today

September 5th, 2008 by danny463

His door was open, “Come in! Come in!” Norman Cousins was sitting on the edge of his desk as if he didn’t have a care in the world, or a thing to do. A knee crossed over the other leg, one hand was in the other in his lap. His expression was one of kindness and intelligence. He had lit up fresh skin and a warm smile. He wore a simple tweed jacket, slacks, loafers, no tie with his shirt open at the collar. He personified grace and ease.

I was in a parking lot at the end of a busy day laughing with a group of friends–the last time I saw him. He and his wife drove by in his older blue Volvo. He saw me and slowed down with a big smile to wave goodbye. One of the truly great men whose words challenge us today to bring forth the greatness of humanity as the solution for the planet’s ills– when the essential problem is widespread divorce from our own humanity.

He said that “Inevitably, an individual is measured by his or her largest concerns.” But he is also measured by his equanimity whether in the halls of power, in a leper colony, in dealing with his own long battle with degenerative disease, or in his generosity to a young woman who could do absolutely nothing for him in return.

He was a central guest at the celebrated White House Nobel Prize dinner on April 29, 1962 exchanging bon mots with Lionel Trilling, James Baldwin, Dr. Linus Pauling, William Styron, Robert Frost, Pearl Buck and other stellar lights that President Kennedy termed “The most extraordinary collection of talent and human knowledge that ever gathered in the White House, except when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.” And now I, a young woman, was on my way to meet him.

Our work had a tiny connection, and so I got to know him a bit, beyond his public stature, lectures and books. He believed in laughter, optimism, and had a twinkle in his eye for the world. He was so curious about the interrelationships between all things, and in the last twelve years of his life, especially the mind-body-disease connection.

Meeting Norman Cousins - His Words For Today

Political journalist, professor, world peace advocate, passionate nuclear disarmament crusader, humanist, author, husband, father to five daughters, winner of prizes and accolades from around the world. I thought of what added luster to his name as my heels clicked down that long, bright, empty hall on the UCLA campus where a building now bears his name and recalled that, Albert Einstein, Time Magazine’s Man of the 20th Century would call to chat with him on the phone. I was a dust mote in comparison, and had also met some of the literati who were disappointing. Would another hero bite the dust today?

Learn Chinese - What You Need to Know

Learn Chinese - But Which Dialect?

There are two different character systems, aren’t there?

Whilst I specifically learn Mandarin, the standard dialect of Chinese that most people speak, different regions have different dialects. The differences between some are really not too big (e.g. Beijing Chinese and Singapore Chinese) but others are almost a completely different language altogether (e.g. Mandarin and Cantonese). Some dialects are only spoken, and use mainstream Chinese characters for writing with. It’s best to target your dialect to where you think you’ll visit. For Hong Kong and Macau you’ll probably want to learn Cantonese instead of Mandarin. Whilst most people in these regions learn basic Chinese Mandarin, you’ll find that you can communicate a whole lot more effectively in the real local language. If you just want to learn Chinese for the fun of it, learn Mandarin for sure.

If you simply wrote ‘Wo’ most Chinese would not understand you. If you said ‘Wo’ they would.

It all depends on many factors, like frequency of study, the effort put in and whether you hear people around you speak Chinese fluently regularly. However, at an hour a day, to learn intermediate Chinese should take about six months to a year.

I’m a real languages fan and the latest language project I’m working on is to learn Chinese. So far I’m really enjoying the experience and last year I even went to China to test out my skills - as it’s also important to learn the culture with the language! For those thinking about learning Chinese, here are a couple of important things I wish I knew when I started.

Learn Chinese - What You Need to Know

Do I have to learn characters?

The simplified Chinese character for I (as in me) is (if you can’t see this character you might need to install a language pack).

The Pinyin for the character is ‘Wo3′. Written (as opposed to typed) Pinyin is different - the written Wo3 has a small ‘u’ on top of the O, indicating how to say the word to distinguish it from other ‘Wo’s.

Yes, there is Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. Simplified Chinese is much easier to learn than Traditional Chinese (less complicated characters, etc.). Traditional Chinese is now only used in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. The Chinese government redeveloped the character system in the 20th century to produce simplified Chinese, which is now the standard in most parts of China and in some international Chinese communities. Depending on where you plan on travelling, you should target the character system you learn if you decide to learn written Chinese.

No! The beauty of learning Chinese nowadays is the presence of Hanyu Pinyin, or Pinyin for short. If you just want to learn spoken Chinese, there’s still some writing involved, but you won’t be writing characters. Hanyu Pinyin is the international standard for romanisation of Chinese characters. Pinyin was invented to help foreigners learn Chinese and occasionally school children learn it as well - however most Chinese will not understand you if you try to write Pinyin - they associate characters with the sounds that we would associate to the romanised Pinyin. For example:

Love Covers Over All Wrongs

September 4th, 2008 by danny463

Think about it next time you’re tempted to whinge about something or condemn someone; no matter how bad it is, you don’t need to do it. You can use the power of your mind to love instead. All it takes is awareness and will.

I’ve written of complaint. To complain is a failure to love. To choose love over the option to complain or condemn a person uses the power of God that anyone can tap into. Love covers over all wrongs and propounds the truth of “two wrongs don’t make a right.” But a ‘right’ can correct a ‘wrong.’

The twelfth verse of Proverbs 10 contrasts love and hatred. Love is more powerful than fear, and so it stands to reason it is more powerful than hatred, greed, envy, and every other worldly evil.

Eloquently put, love seals the deal. It never ever fails, not in the long run. It wins each time because it is enshrined in God’s holiest wisdom and truth; counter-the-world, love responds as no one can really understand who don’t know God.

But how rarely it occurs is disappointing. The most pious of us will fail to love most of the time, yet its timeless truth rages out — learn of me, it commands, all through the Scriptures.

I remember writing about Selwyn’s Hughes’ definition of love: you’re hurt by someone and yet you look back at them with the hurt in your eyes, but without any shred of rejection. Love never condemns. Any time we judge and condemn we’ve failed to love. Hughes described this state of being hurt but not rejecting the other person as the ‘look of Jesus.’

Love Covers Over All Wrongs

Think about this. Most of us judge and condemn all the time; in little ways I mean. Out on the road, or at a sports game. It’s our carnal way to judge and condemn people.

Can you smile with genuine joy when things are tough? Love can get you to this place.

Motivation Letter For Work Abroad

September 3rd, 2008 by danny463

Motivation Letter For Work Abroad

The Motivation Letter is constructed like a formal business letter, with your name and address in the top right corner. Beneath this and against the left margin should be the name, job title, company and address of the recipient. (It is worth doing a little digging to find out the name, if you don’t know it.) European countries don’t put a period after title abbreviations, so remember to leave them off ; i.e., “Mr” instead of “Mr.” and “Dr” rather than “Dr.”. Spell out the name of the month and use the order “day-month-year.”

The first paragraph of your Motivation Letter describes the job for which you are applying, and how you learned about it. The second paragraph should address your qualifications for the job; don’t just list them, talk about them. Show yourself to be a person of initiative and creativity ; in short, motivated! In the third paragraph, talk about why you want this particular job. What skills do you bring to it? What do you hope to learn? Finally, in the fourth paragraph give your contact information and times you are available for interview.

If you are applying for a job abroad (particularly in Europe or South America), a Motivation Letter For Work Abroad takes the place of a Cover Letter. Both resumes and Motivation Letters are much less formal than their United States equivalents. The Motivation Letter, as its name implies, tells your prospective employers why you are motivated to work for their companies. It gives you a chance to describe your personality, the languages you speak, any awards you may have won, and what motivates you to work abroad.

Put the words into two columns on a piece of paper, the English words on one side and the Spanish words on the other.

Mesa table

You can make the list as long as you like but only work with a few words at a time by covering the English or Spanish words to learn the corresponding words. With this technique you can keep the piece of paper with you during the day and when you have a spare few minutes here and there test yourself. This way learning vocabulary will not be boring and time consuming and in fact it will be more productive than sitting down and learning for 30 minutes.

If you want to learn to speak Spanish online then you are looking to learn the second most spoken language in the world. And the first is not English but Chinese! Spanish is a great second language to learn and even though learning a foreign language can be challenging it can also be fun.

Free Resume Templates - A Much Needed Resource When Creating a Resume

Free Resume Templates - A Much Needed Resource When Creating a Resume

Free resume templates have received their fair share of negative press with many critics stating they are too common and present a cookie cutter appearance. These critics are in the minority with the bulk of employers stating they are more concerned about content than they are about style and flare.

Save yourself time and the frustration of trying to format your own document and use a template to create an effective resume today!

Hundreds of free resume templates are available that can be used to create a resume that clearly outlines a person’s skills and qualifications. A search at Google returned over four million listings.

The average employer spends approximately 30 seconds reviewing each resume. Therefore, it is critical for a resume to present its information in a clear, concise, and easy-to-read format.

The use of a template helps to minimize some of the extraneous tasks associated with creating a resume and allows the writer to focus on the content.

  • it can save a person time
  • it presents their information in a standardized, professional manner
  • it is easily customized to the individual’s unique skills & qualifications!

Job seekers need all the tools they can use in today’s competitive job market and free resume templates are one of those tools. Templates are pre-existing forms or formats that often include preset margins, graphics, fonts, and other information pertaining to the layout of a page. They are a valuable resource to use when creating a resume. Many of them are simple to use, just fill-in-the-blanks and your resume is ready to print.

A resume template is a valuable resource because:

Sarkozy Spin Or a Cave in to Chinese Pressure?

September 1st, 2008 by danny463

He then ummed and aahed for a couple of months, all the while not making it clear what he would do. Finally he ignored the decision of Germany’s Angela Merkel, who took the moral high road by refusing to attend, and said he would indeed show up. Which he did.

Whatever the case may be, it sure hasn’t done Sarkozy any harm having Carla at the Elysée palace.

You’ll perhaps remember that the poor man had problems deciding whether he should pitch up at all. Back in March he said he was “shocked” by China’s security clampdown in Tibet and urged Beijing to re-open discussions with the exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama.

Of course it can help assuage guilt and shed a completely different light on your own decision when your partner holds opposing views and is able to exercise “independent’ actions over which you apparently have no control.

For it is she and not he, who will be present as the Dalai Lama opens a Buddhist temple in southern France on August 22.

Sarkozy Spin Or a Cave in to Chinese Pressure?

Quiet that is just before his “appearance” at the opening ceremony, when his office at the Elysée palace released an official statement that showed once again he is a master of wheedling himself out of a conundrum

A cave in from Sarkozy, a jiggling of the first lady’s calendar or some deft diplomatic footwork that appears to keep all sides happy and prevents any loss of face?

Sarkozy could have been forgiven for brimming with Gallic indignation a couple of days later though, when the Chinese ambassador to Paris, Kong Quan, told the French media that there would be “serious consequences” for Sino-Franco relations if he decided to meet the Dalai Lama personally during the exiled spiritual leader’s visit to France in August.

It’s hard enough for any of us to stick to our principles at the best of times. Imagine how much harder it must be then for a politician, regardless of his or her political hue.

And as he beamed from the stands of the Olympic stadium in Beijing on Friday at the opening ceremony of the Games, similar thoughts could well have been passing through the mind of the French president, Nicolas Sarkozy.

The solution to the dilemma? Twofold. First a carefully worded announcement from the Elysée palace that Sarkozy wouldn’t be meeting the Dalai Lama, while making it look as though it was the latter’s decision but cleverly not expounding on the reason.

And then phase two and the real answer to his dreams: Enter stage Left, politically and socially in the form of none other than France’s first lady, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy.
