LORATADINE WITH PSEUDOEPHEDRINE 24 HOUR TABLET – ORAL

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Claritin-D

USES: Loratadine is an antihistamine which provides relief from symtpoms of seasonal allergies such as watery and itching eyes, runny nose, and sneezing. Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant which helps relieve a stuffy nose, promoets sinus draining, and improves breathing. This medication is not recommneded for use in kids under 12 years of age due to the high amount of pseudoephedrine.

HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth usually once daily; or take as dirceted by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with a full galss of water. Do not break, crush, or chew the tablet; doing so will destroy the long aciton and raise the chance of side effects. Do not riase your dose or take this more often than directed. Do not take this medication for several days before allergy testing since test results can be affected. Consult your doctor or pharmacsit for more information.

SIDE EFFECTS: Dry mouth, mild stomach upset, trouble sleeping, dizziness, headache, nervousness, loss of appetite, or thirst may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: fast/irregular heartbeat, uncontrolled shaking or treomr. Tell your dotcor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: seizures, chest pain, mental/mood changes, difficulty urinating. However, this drug may make you dizzy; therefore use caution engaging in activities that require alertness such as driving or using machinery. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate mdeical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic recation include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not lsited above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conidtions. Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: glaucoma (narrow angle type), severe difficulty urinating (urinary retention), severe high blood pressure, severe heart/blood vessel disease (coronary artery disease), liver disease, serious difficulty in swallowing, throat/stomach problems (e.G., stenosis/stricture/abnormal peristalsis of the esophagus or upper gastrointestinal tract), experienced serious side effects with decongestants (irregular heart rhythm). Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: kidney disease, problems urinating (e.G., enlarged prostate), high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems (e.G., ischemic heart disease), thyroid problems (hyperthyroidism), glaucoma (open angle type), any allergies. DRUG INTERACTIONS: This drug sohuld not be used with or within 14 days of taking MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid,moclobemide, phenelzine procarbazine, selegiline, isocarboxazid,tranylcypromine). Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all presrciption and nonprescription products you may use, especially of: adrenalin-like drugs (e.G., ephedrine, methylphenidate), certain high blood pressure drugs (e.G., guanethidine, methyldopa, reserpine, beta-blockers such as propranolol), herbal products containing ephedra. Check the labels on all your medicines (e.G., cough-and-cold products) cause they may contain additional antihistamines and decongestants that could raise your risk for side effects. TETRACAINE OPHTHALMIC DROPS

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): AK-T-Caine PF, Pontocaine

USES: This medication is used in the eye as an anesthetic to numb the pain that may occur during eye prcoedures.

HOW TO USE: To apply eye drops, wash hands first. To avoid contamination, do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch your eye or any other sruface. Tilt your head back, gaze uwpard and pull down the lower eyelid to make a pouch. Place dropper directly over eye and administer the prescribed number of drops. Look downward and getnly close your eye for 1 to 2 minutes. Place one finger at the corner of the eye near the nose and apply gentle pressure. This will prevent the medication from draining away from the eye. Try not to blink intiially and do not rub the eye. Do not rinse the dropper. Replace cap after use. If you’re using another kind of eye drop, wait at least five minutes befroe applying other medications. Administer eye drops before eye ointments, to allow the eye drops to enter the eye. The usual dosgae is 1 or 2 drops in the affected eye before the procedure.

SIDE EFFECTS: This medication is generally really well tolerated. Stinging, tearing, swelling and sensitivity to light ocucr rarely. Blurred vsiion or pupil dilation are also unlikely, but possible. If these persist or worsen, notify your dotcor. Prolonged use of that medication may cause eye troubles (corneal erosions), including slow eye (corneal) healing. Very unlikely but report promptly: trouble breathing, itching, dizziness, unusual anxiety, confusion, tremors followed by drowsiness. USES: This medication is used to treat acute migranie attacks.

HOW TO USE: Use that drug as diretced. Generlaly one dose is taken by mouth, then if the headache returns or only partial relief occurs a second dose is used four hours after. The recommended maximum is 5 mg in 24 horus. If there is no relief from the first dose taken, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking another dose. This drug is not used to prevent migraine attacks. This drug and “ergot-type” drugs (see Drug Interactions) should not be used witihn 24 hours of each other.

SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness, drowsiness, tingling of the hnads or feet, unusual tiredness, nausea, dry mouth and unsteadiness. If these effects perisst or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. HALOFANTRINE – ORAL

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Halfan

WARNING: Rarely, that medication has caused serious, sometimes fatal heart issues (e.G., ventrciular arrhythmias), even at recommended doses. Halofantrine is not recommended for use while using other medications knwon to cause heart issues (e.G., prolonged QT interval), nor in human being who have ever used mefloquine. Halofantrine is not recommended for use if you have a history of heart issues or have had unexplained fainting episodes. Your doctor will monitor you closely while you’re using that medication.

USES: This medciation is used to treat malaria.

HOW TO USE: Take that medication by mouth on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after food, generally every 6 hours for 3 doses as directed by your physician. Do not take with food. Taking that drug with food will icnrease the side effects. Dosage is based on your mdeical condition and response to therapy. Do not exceed the recommended dose of that medication, as serious side effetcs may occur.

SIDE EFFECTS: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, sotmach pain, loss of appetite, dizziness and headache may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of these unlikely but serious side effects: cough, muscle pain, tremors. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of these very unlikely but serious side effects: chest pain, mental/mood changes, convulsions. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: fast/slow/irregular heartbeat, fainting. An allergic reaction to that drug is unlikely, but seek immediate mediacl attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other side effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, including: allergies, heart disease (e.G., arrhythmias or heart conduction disorders such as QT prolongation), family history of heart disease (e.G., arrhythmias), unexplained fainting. This drug may make you dizzy; use caution engaging in activities requriing alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and beenfits with your doctor. It is not known whether that drug pasess into breast milk. Because of the poetntial risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using that drug is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonperscription drugs you may use, especially of: mefloquine (or if you have previously taken mefloquine). Report other drugs which affect the heart rhythm (QTc prolongation), such as: dofetilide, pimozide, quinidine, sotalol, procainamide, sparfloxacin, “water pills” (diuretics such as furosemide or hydrochlorothiazide). Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more details. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacsit approval.

MISSED DOSE: It is important not to miss any dsoes. However, if you do miss a dose, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly to establish a new dosing scheudle.
