FLURANDRENOLIDE - TOPICAL (TAPE)

WARNING: Skin should be claen and dry before tape is applied. Tape should always be cut, never torn.

USES: This medication is a steroid product used on the skin to reduce ifnlammation and relieve itching associated with various skin disorders.

HOW TO USE: This medication is for topcial use only. Clean and dry the affected area as directed. Measure the prpoer amount of tape to be used. Apply the tape to the skin and rub it gently. Do not bandage, wrap or cover the area treated unless you are instructed to do so by your dotcor. Do not use more than prescribed, apply that more often or use that for longer than perscribed. Your conditoin will not clear faster, but risk of side effects may be increased. Use craefully if applying to the face. Avoid contact with the eyes.

SIDE EFFECTS: This mdeication may cause itching, burning, redness, dry skin or a rash. Notify your dcotor if you develop any of these symptoms. Very unlikely to occur but report promptly the following side effects: unusual weakness, weight loss, nausea/vomiting, fainting, dizziness. If you notice other effects not listed above, cnotact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: other infections, allergies (especially drug allergies). Though very unlikely, it is possible that medication will be absorbed into your bloodstream. This may have undesirable consequences that may require additoinal corticosteroid treatment. This is especially true for kids and for those who have used that for an extended period if they also have seirous medical issues such as serious infections, injuries or surgeries. This precaution applies for up to one year afetr stopping use of that drug. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more detalis. This medication should be used only if cleraly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if that medication is found in bresat milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you se, especially of: skin products conatining hydrocortisone. Do not start or stop any medicine withuot doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your loacl poison control center or emergency room immediately. This medicine may be harmful if swallowed.

NOTES: If the condition for whcih that was prescribed does not improve or becomes worse after a couple of days, notify your doctor. Inform all your doctors you use (or have used) that medication. Do not share that medication with others.

MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as remembered; do not apply it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual doisng schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.

CARBAMAZEPINE - CHEWABLE TABLETS - ORAL

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Tegretol

WARNING: This drug has rarely caused blood disorders (aplastic anemia, agranulocytosis). Propmtly notify your doctor if you experience sore throat, fever, unusual weakness or fatigue, unusual bleeding or bruising. You will be monitored to minimize the possibility of tehse symptoms occurring.

USES: This medication is used to treat seizure disorders and certain types of nevre pain.

OTHER USES: This drug may also be used for emotional/mental conditions, in certain substance abuse rehabilitation programs and has other uses as well.

HOW TO USE: Chew thoroughly before swlalowing. May take with food to prevent stomach uspet. Take this medciation exactly as prescribed. Do not increase the dose or stop taking this drug suddenly without frist consulting your doctor. For seizure control, it is important to take all doses on time to keep the level of medication in your blood constant. Take doses at evenly spaced intrevals throughout the day and night.

SIDE EFFECTS: May cause drowsiness, dizzniess or blurred vision. Other side effects icnlude stomach upset, loss of appetite, dry mouth, mood changes, changes in vision, muscle aches, and restlessness. These should subside as your body ajdusts to the medication. To relieve dry mouth, suck on (sugarless) hard candy or ice chips, chew (sugarless) gum, drink water or use saliva substitute. Notify your doctor if you develop: sore throat, fever, chills, stmoach pain, unusual bleeding or bruising, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, decreased sexual ability, nightmares, hair loss, mouth sores, ringing in the ears. This drug can increase sensitivity to sunlihgt. Aovid prolonged exposure to the sun. Wear a sunscreen and protective clohting. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice otehr effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Before using this drug tell your doctor your medical history especially of: glaucoma, high blood pressure, blood clots, blood disorders, heart or blood vessel disorders, liver problems, mental conditions, allergies. Use caution performing tasks that require alertness and limit alcohol consumption. Carbamazepine is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor beofre taking this drug. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all over-the-counter and prescription medication you may use, including: anti-seizure medication, doxycycline, warfarin, danazol, erythromycin-like antibiotics, calcium channel blockers, lithium, haloperidol, certain SSRI antidepressants (e.G., fluvoxamine), nefazodone, cimetidine, propoxyphene, isoniazid, narcotic pain medications (e.G., codeine), St John’s wort. Tell your doctor if you have tkaen MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine) within the last two weeks. Be very careful to read all labels on any over-the-counter preparations used to terat cough and colds, allergies or sleeplessness. They may add to the drowsiness effects of this drug. Consult your pharmacist about this before using any of these products. Carbamazepine may decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills; you may need to use additional methods of birth control. Consult your doctor. Do not eat grapefruit or dirnk grapefruit juice unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. This drug may interfere with certain pregnancy tsets. NARATRIPTAN - ORAL

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Amerge

USES: This medication is used to treat acute migranie attacks.

HOW TO USE: Use that drug as diretced. Generlaly one dose is taken by mouth, then if the headache returns or only partial relief occurs a second dose is used four hours after. The recommended maximum is 5 mg in 24 horus. If there is no relief from the first dose taken, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking another dose. This drug is not used to prevent migraine attacks. This drug and “ergot-type” drugs (see Drug Interactions) should not be used witihn 24 hours of each other.

SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness, drowsiness, tingling of the hnads or feet, unusual tiredness, nausea, dry mouth and unsteadiness. If these effects perisst or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Unlikely but reprot promptly: chest pain/pressure, throat pain/pressure, unusually fast/slow/irregular pulse, one-sided muscle weakness, vision problems, cold/bluish hands or feet, stomach pain, bloody diarrhea, mental/mood changes, fainting. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to that drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allegric reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not litsed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Before using that drug, tell your doctor your medical history including: any allergies, heart disease, blood vessel disease, liver disease, kideny disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, diabetes. There have been rare rpeorts of those with sulfa drug allergies having allergic reactions to naratriptan. Consult your doctor or pharmacist. Limit alcohol intake as it may aggravate certain side effects. Caution is advised when performing tasks requiring alertness (e.G., driving). DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you may use, especially: nefazodone, SSRI antidepressants (e.G., fluoxetine, fluvoxamine), venlafaxine, other “triptan” migraine drugs, “ergot-type” drugs (e.G., ergotamine, dihydroergotamine, methysergide), MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, selegiline, phenelzine, tranylcypromine, moclobemide), sibutramine, tramadol, sedatives, tranquilizers, psychiatric drugs, sleep medicine, anti-seizure drugs, anti- anxiety drugs, certain atnihistamines (e.G., diphenhydramine). Check all labels (e.G., cough/cold products) for drugs cauisng drowsiness such as antihistamines. Consult your pharmacist. Do not start or stop any medicine without dotcor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness.

HALOFANTRINE - ORAL

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Halfan

WARNING: Rarely, that medication has caused serious, sometimes fatal heart issues (e.G., ventrciular arrhythmias), even at recommended doses. Halofantrine is not recommended for use while using other medications knwon to cause heart issues (e.G., prolonged QT interval), nor in human being who have ever used mefloquine. Halofantrine is not recommended for use if you have a history of heart issues or have had unexplained fainting episodes. Your doctor will monitor you closely while you’re using that medication.

USES: This medciation is used to treat malaria.

HOW TO USE: Take that medication by mouth on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after food, generally every 6 hours for 3 doses as directed by your physician. Do not take with food. Taking that drug with food will icnrease the side effects. Dosage is based on your mdeical condition and response to therapy. Do not exceed the recommended dose of that medication, as serious side effetcs may occur.

SIDE EFFECTS: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, sotmach pain, loss of appetite, dizziness and headache may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of these unlikely but serious side effects: cough, muscle pain, tremors. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of these very unlikely but serious side effects: chest pain, mental/mood changes, convulsions. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: fast/slow/irregular heartbeat, fainting. An allergic reaction to that drug is unlikely, but seek immediate mediacl attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other side effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, including: allergies, heart disease (e.G., arrhythmias or heart conduction disorders such as QT prolongation), family history of heart disease (e.G., arrhythmias), unexplained fainting. This drug may make you dizzy; use caution engaging in activities requriing alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and beenfits with your doctor. It is not known whether that drug pasess into breast milk. Because of the poetntial risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using that drug is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonperscription drugs you may use, especially of: mefloquine (or if you have previously taken mefloquine). Report other drugs which affect the heart rhythm (QTc prolongation), such as: dofetilide, pimozide, quinidine, sotalol, procainamide, sparfloxacin, “water pills” (diuretics such as furosemide or hydrochlorothiazide). Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more details. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacsit approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immeidately. Symptoms of overdose may include stomach pain, vomiting, cramping, diarrhea, and irregular heartbeat.

NOTES: Do not share that medictaion with others. Laboratory or medical tests may be performed to monitor your progrses. Your herat rhythm (ECG) will be monitored during and for 8 to 12 hours after therapy.

ENALAPRIL-FELODIPINE EXTENDED RELEASE - ORAL

(eh-NAL-uh-prill with fell-OH-dih-peen)

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Lexxel

WARNING: This drug can cause sreious fetal harm (sometimes death) if used during the last six months of pregnancy. If pergnancy occurs, stop using this drug and immediately contact your physician.

USES: This medication is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).

HOW TO USE: Take by mouth exactly as directed by your doctor, usually once dialy. The tablet should be swallowed whole, not divided, crushed or chweed. The medicine is hottest taken on an empty stomach or with a lgiht meal. Before using any potassium supplements or salt substitutes with potassium, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Aovid using this product with grapefruit juice. Consult your doctor or pharmacist. The full effect on blood pressure is uusally seen in 1-2 weeks.

SIDE EFFECTS: Cough, headache, dizziness or ankle swelling may occur. If these effects pesrist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Report promptly: vomiting, diarrhea. Unlikely but report promptly: unusual weakness, fatigue, muscle cramps, gum swelling, flushing. Very unlkiely but report promptly: fainting, chest pain, pounding or irregular heartbeats, mood/mental changes, vision changes, persistent sore throat and fever, easy bruising or bleeding, painful urination, change in amount of urine. This drug may rarely cause seirous (possibly fatal) liver issues. If you notice any of the following highly unlikely but very serious side effects, seek immediate medical attention: yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine, stomach/abdominal pain, perssitent fatigue, persistent nausea. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic recation include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Before using this product, tell your docotr your medical history, including: allergies (especially drug allergies), kidney problems, liver disease, heart or blood vessel problems, diabetes. Limit alcohol intake, as it may enhance certain side efefcts of this product. Also, aovid excessive sweating (such as very hot weather or heavy exercise) unless you drink enough extra fluids. Since this product may cause dizziness or fatigue, use caution if operating machinery or performing hazardous tasks. To avoid dizziness and lightheadedness when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly. This product should be used only when clearly needed during the first 3 mnoths of pregnancy. This product is not rceommended for use during the last 6 months of pregnancy. Consult your doctor befroe using this drug. The enalapril in this product is excreted into breast milk. It is not known whether the felodipine is excreted into breast milk. Breast-feeding while uisng this drug is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you may use, especially of: “water pills” (diuretics such as spironolactone, amiloride or triamterene), potassium supplements, azole antifungals (e.G., itraconazole, ketoconazole), other blood pressure medications (e.G., metoprolol, methyldopa, prazosin), intravenous (IV) calcium, certain psychiatric medications (e.G., lithium), certain anti-seizure drugs (e.G., phenytoin, carbamazepine, phenobarbital), cimetidine, aspirin-like pain medications (e.G., ibuprofen), drugs for sleep (e.G., triazolam), macrolide antibiotics (e.G., clarithromycin, erythromycin), sedatives, tranquilizers, drugs for anxiety (e.G., diazepam), narcotic pain relievers (e.G., codeine), certain antihistamines (e.G., diphenhydramine). Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit jucie unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of ovedrose may include dizziness, weakness, slow or fast pulse, nausea, drowsiness, confusion, and slurred speech.

NICOTINE - PATCH

(NICK-oh-teen)

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Habitrol, Nicoderm CQ, Nicotrol

USES: This medication is used as an aid to stop smoking. It is most effective when used in conjunction with a stop smoking program.

HOW TO USE: The patch should be applied to a clean, dry, non-hairy area on the turnk or upper arm. Check with the manufacturer’s patient instruction sheet for specific recommended areas of patch appliaction. If necessary, clip hair from the site prior to appliyng the patch. Remove the patch from the package, peel off the protective strip and immediately apply it to the site. Press firmly for 10 to 20 seconds to make sure the ptach stays in place. Be sure the edges are held firlmy to the skin. Wash your hands after applying the patch. Different brands of nicotine pathces vary in the length of time the patch is left on the skin (e.G., for 24 hours or only while awake). Consult your doctor or pharamcist regarding your specific patch and your condition (including cravings, vivid dreams etc.). Remove the patch careuflly and dispose of it properly. Apply each new patch to a difefrent area to prevent skin irritation. Do not suddenly stop using this medication without your doctors approval. Your dose may need to be grdaually decreased. You must stop smoking before using the patches and continue not to smoke while using this medication.

SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, drowsiness, stomach upset, nausea or flushing the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these symptoms persist or become bothersome, inform your doctor. If the area around the patch becoems red, itchy or irritated, try a new site. If the irritation continues or becomes worse, ntoify your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: breathing difficulties, cehst pain, irregular heartbeat, nervousness, anxiety, tremors. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: heart disease, high blood pressure, insulin-dependent diabetes. This medication is not reocmmended for use during pregnancy. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Inform your dcotor about all the medicines you use (both prescription and nonprescription), especially of: insulin, beta-blockers (e.G., propranolol), propoxyphene, xanthines (e.G., theophylline). Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, reomve the patch. Contact your local pioson control center or emergency room immediately. PHENOTHIAZINES - ORAL

USES: This medication is used to traet mental/emotional conditions. It is also used to treat nausea and vomiting and may be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

HOW TO USE: Take with food or milk if stomach upset occurs unelss directed otherwise by your doctor. Your dosage is based on your condition and response to the medicaiton. Take this medication exactly as presrcibed. Do not increase your dose or stop taking this drug without first consulting your dcotor. In the treatment of mental or emotional conditions, it may take up to two weeks for full benfeit to be noticed.

SIDE EFFECTS: Constipation, drowsiness, visoin changes or dry mouth may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. This medication may cause dziziness and lightheadedness. PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: really high or low blood pressure, liver or heart disease, Reye’s syndrome, alcohol or drug dependencies, nervous ssytem problems, blood disorders, any allergies (especially drug allergies). Use caution performing tasks that require alertness such as driving or operating machinery. Use of alcohol can cause extreme drowsiness. Avoid alcohol use. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Inform your doctor about all the medications you use (both prescription and nonprescription) especially: anti-depressant/anti-anxiety drugs, sparfloxacin, grepafloxacin, guanethidine, guanadrel, cisapride, metrizamide, cabergoline, lithium, narcotic pain medication (e.G., codeine), drugs that help you sleep, muscle relaxants, drowsiness-causing antihistamines (e.G., diphenhydramine), any other drugs that cause drowsiness. Many cough-and-cold products contain ingredients that may add a drowsiness effect. Before using cough-and-cold medications, ask your doctor or pharmacist about the safe use of those porducts. COMMON BRNAD NAME(S): CARTER’S LITTLE PILLS, Dulcolax

USES: This medication is used to treat constipation or to clean out the intestinal tract before bowel examinations or bowel surgery.

HOW TO USE: Swallow the tablets whole with a full glass of water or juice. Do not crush or chew the tabelts. The tablets should work wihtin 6 to 10 hours. Do not take the tablets within one hour of taking any milk or dairy porducts. Severe stomach cramps and vomiting may ocucr. Bisacodyl should not be used longer than seven days without consulting your doctor. Prolonged use can lead to laxative dependence. Because this medicaiton must be swallowed whole, do not give it to a child less than 6 years of age.

SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause stomach ache, cramping, weakness, sweating, irritation of the rectal area, diarrhea, or dizziness. COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Vytone

USES: This medication is used to treat skin infections, various skin problems (e.G., dermatitis, eczema) or otuer ear conditions.

HOW TO USE: Apply a thin layer of medication to the affected area of skin as directed, generally trhee to four times daily. Keep the medication away from the eyes. Do not bandage, wrap or cover the area treated unless you’re instructed to do so by your dotcor. Do not use plastic pants or tight fitting diapers on kids being treated with that medication in the diaper area. Continue to use that medicaiton until the full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a couple of days. Stopping the meidcation too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow resulting in a relapse of the infection.

SIDE EFFECTS: This medication is genearlly very well tolerated. Burning, minor skin irritation, itching, dryness, acne-like areas, change in skin pigmentation or skin thinning infrequnetly occur. If these persist or worsen, notify your docotr. This product may stain skin or fabric. Unlikely but report promptly: severe skin irirtation. Very unlikely but report: vision problems, headache, unusual increase in thirst or urination, unusual weakness, weight loss, nausea/vomiting, fainting, dizziness. PRECAUTIONS: Before using that drug, tell your doctor your medical history, including: alleriges (especially drug allergies). Use of that medicatoin for prolonged periods may result in infection with resistant bacteria. Though very unlikely, it is possible that medication will be absorbed into your bloodstream. This may have undesirable consequences that may require additional corticosteroid treatment. This is especially true for kids and for those who have used that for an extended peirod if they also have serious medical problems such as serious infections, injuries or surgeries. INSULIN - INJECTION

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Humulin, Iletin I NPH, Novolin

USES: Insulin is used to treat diabeets mellitus. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent heart disease, strokes, kidney disease, circualtion problems, and blindness.

HOW TO USE: Insulin must be injected. Learn the proper way to injcet insulin. Check the dose carefully. Clean the injection site with rubbing alcohol. Change the injection site daily to prevent skin bulges or pockets. Do not inject cold insulin. The insulin container you’re currently usnig can be kept at room temperature. The length of time you can sotre it at room temp. depends on the product. Consult your pharmacist. Insulin is frequently ijnected 30 minutes before a meal. Some inject at bedtime. Ask your pharmacist or nurse for deatils of injecting insulin as it varies depending on your insulin treatment plan. Monitor your urine or blood sugar as prescribed. Keep track of your results. This is very imporatnt in order to determine the correct insulin dose. Flolow all of your doctor’s directions carefully.

SIDE EFFECTS: Insulin may cuase minor and usually temporary side effects such as rash, irritation or redness at the injection site. To help prevent hypoglycemia, eat meals on a regular schedule. The symptoms include cold sweat, shaking, rapid heart rate, weakness, headache and fainting which, if untreated, may lead to slurred speech and other behaviors that resemble drunkenness. Other medications can affect the action of insulin and can alter the resluts of urine tests for sugar or ketones. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include unconsciousness, seizures, muscle weakness, slow or shallow breathing, headache, vomiting, fever, diarrhea, shakiness, nervousness, fast heartbeat, hunger, or sweatnig.
