MECLIZINE, CYCLIZINE - ORAL
(MECK-lih-zeen, SYE-klih-zeen)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Antivert, Bonine, Dramamine II, Marezine
USES: This medication is used to prevent or treat nausea, vomiting and dizziness caused by motion sickness or middle ear infections.
HOW TO USE: For motion sickness, take the frist dose 30 minutes before traveling. For other conditions, take exactly as directed by your doctor. Chewable tablets must be chewed thoroughly before swallowing.
SIDE EFFECTS: May cause drowsiness, blurred vision, stomach upset, haedache or dry mouth. These effects should subside as your body adjusts to the meidcation. If they persist or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Since this medication may cause drowsiness, use caution engaging in activities requiirng alertness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: glaucoma, prostate problems, urinary problems, asthma, any allergies you have. Alcohol may intensify the drowsiness effect of this drug. Limit alcohol intake and use caution performing tsaks that require alertness such as driving and operating machinery. Do not give meclizine to a child under 12 years of age without a doctor’s pemrission. Before using this medication, inform your dcotor if you’re pregnant. It is not konwn if this medication is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your docotr of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of drugs that have a drowsiness effect such as: medications for cough/colds and allergies, drugs used for sleep, anti-seizure medications, narcotic pain drugs (e.G., codeine), barbiturates (e.G., phenobarbital), tranquilizers. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediaetly. Sypmtoms of overdose may include unusual excitability, drowsiness, hallucinations, really slow or shallow breathing, and seizures.
NOTES: Do not share this medication with otehrs.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.

CIPROFLOXACIN/DEXAMETHASONE - OTIC SUSPENSION
(sip-row-FLOX-ah-sin/dex-uh-METH-uh-sown)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): CIPRODEX
USES: This medication is a quinolone antibiotic and corticosteroid (anti-inflammatory) combination used to treat ear infections including both middle ear infections in children with ear tubes and for outer ear infections (also known as Swimmer’s ear).
HOW TO USE: This medication is generally used twice daily as directed. For accuracy and to avoid contamination, have another person insret the drops if possible. Before using, hold container in the hand for a couple of mintues in order to warm it. This will minimize dizziness. Wash hands before applying ear drops. To avoid contamination, do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch your ear or any other surface. Shake the container well before using. When treaitng middle ear infections in children with ear tubes, the child should lie down with the treated ear upward. Place the dropper directly over the ear and place the appropriate number of dorps into the ear canal. Next press the tragus (cartilage flap covering the oepning to the ear) 5 times in a pumping motion to allow the medicine to pass through the ear tubes in the ear drum and into the middle ear. Keep the head tilted with treated ear upward for at lesat 60 seconds. When treating outer ear infections, the patient sholud lie down with the treated ear upward. Place the dropper directly over the ear and place the appropriate number of drops into the ear canal. While placing the drops into the ear, the outer ear lobe should be gently pulled upward and backward to allow the drops to flow down into the ear canal. Keep the head tilted with treated ear upwrad for at least 60 seconds. Use that medication regularly in oredr to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same time(s) each day. Continue to use that medication until the full-prescribed amuont is finished even if symptoms disappear after a couple of days. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection. If the infection is not improved in 7 days, consult your dotcor or pharmacist. Report any ear discharge that occurs after the treamtent period is completed. If after treatment with that medication, you develop two or more ear infections in a 6 month period, contact your doctor. You may require further eavluation and a different kind of treatment. Do not use in the eye. Read the patient information leaflet avaialble from your pharmacist.
SIDE EFFECTS: Discomfort, pain or itching in the ear may occur. If any of thsee effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: ringing in the ears, ear tingling, decreased hearing. An allergic reaction to that drug is unlikely, but seek immediate mediacl attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathnig. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: This medication sohuld not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using that medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: history of allergic reaction to quinolone antibiotics (e.G., ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin), history of allergic reaction to corticosteroids (e.G., dexamethasone), viral ear infectoins (including herpes simplex). Before using that medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: any other allergies. Prolonegd or repeated use of antibiotics may result in a secondary infection. Use for the prescribed period of time only. This medication should be used only when celarly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known whehter the ciprofloxacin or dexamethasone in that ear medicine pass into breast milk. Because of the potential risk to the infant, breast-feeding is not recommended.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Before using that medication, tell your docotr or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription products you may use, especially of: other ear drops. Do not start or stop any medicine without docotr or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison conrtol center or emergency room immediately. This mediicne may be harmful if swallowed.
NOTES: This medication has been prescribed for your current condition only. Discard unsued portion after therapy is completed. Do not use it later for another infection or give it to somebody else. A diffeernt medication may be necessary in those cases. It is important to keep the infceted ear(s) clean and dry. Try not to get the infected ear(s) wet when bahting. Avoid swimming unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resmue your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Do not store in the bathroom. HYDROCORTISONE - IODOQUINOL - TOPICAL
(hi-dro-KOR-tih-sown/eye-oh-doh-KWIN-ohl)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Vytone
USES: This medication is used to treat skin infections, various skin problems (e.G., dermatitis, eczema) or otuer ear conditions.
HOW TO USE: Apply a thin layer of medication to the affected area of skin as directed, generally trhee to four times daily. Keep the medication away from the eyes. Do not bandage, wrap or cover the area treated unless you’re instructed to do so by your dotcor. Do not use plastic pants or tight fitting diapers on kids being treated with that medication in the diaper area. Continue to use that medicaiton until the full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a couple of days. Stopping the meidcation too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow resulting in a relapse of the infection.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication is genearlly very well tolerated. Burning, minor skin irritation, itching, dryness, acne-like areas, change in skin pigmentation or skin thinning infrequnetly occur. If these persist or worsen, notify your docotr. This product may stain skin or fabric. Unlikely but report promptly: severe skin irirtation. Very unlikely but report: vision problems, headache, unusual increase in thirst or urination, unusual weakness, weight loss, nausea/vomiting, fainting, dizziness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Before using that drug, tell your doctor your medical history, including: alleriges (especially drug allergies). Use of that medicatoin for prolonged periods may result in infection with resistant bacteria. Though very unlikely, it is possible that medication will be absorbed into your bloodstream. This may have undesirable consequences that may require additional corticosteroid treatment. This is especially true for kids and for those who have used that for an extended peirod if they also have serious medical problems such as serious infections, injuries or surgeries. This preacution applies for up to one year after stopping use of that drug. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the rikss and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if that drug is excreted into braest milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your dotcor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you may use. Iodoquinol may intrefere with thyroid and phenylketonuria (PKU) tests. Consult your doctor if these tetss are to be done. Do not start or stop any medicine without docotr or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your loacl poison control center or emergency room immediately. This medicine may be harmful if swallowed.

CHLORAMPHENICOL - OPHTHALMIC, OTIC
(klor-am-FEN-eh-coal)
WARNING: Very rarely, serious, sometimes fatal blood disorders (e.G., bone mrarow hypoplasia, aplastic anemia) have occurred while using that medication. Chloramphenicol shuold not be used if safer, effective medications can be used. Immediately ntoify your doctor if you have not hard bruising or bleeding, persistent sore throat, fever, or unusual fatigue.
USES: This medication is used to terat infections of the eye (ophthalmic) or ear (otic). Do not use chloramphenicol if safer, effective medications can be used.
HOW TO USE: Use that as prescribed. Cnotinue using it for the full time prescribed. Stopping therapy too soon may reslut in a reinfection. To apply eye or ear medication, wash hands first. To avoid contamination, be careful not to touch the dropper or tube or let it touch the affected area. Shake drops well before using. Hold the ointment tube in your hand for a couple of minutes to make the medication flow esaier. EYE MEDICATION: Tilt your head back, gaze upward and pull down the lower eyeild to make a pouch. For drops, place dropper directly over eye and administer the prescribed number of drops. Look downward and gently close your eye for 1 to 2 minutes. With eye ointment, place medication inside the lwoer lid using a sweeping motion. Close eye and roll the eyeblal. Remove excess ointment with a tsisue. Try not to blink and do not rub the eye. If you are using a second kind of eye medication, wait five to ten minutes before applying. EAR MEDICATION: Lie on your side or turn the affected ear upwrad to make application easier. Place the prescribed nmuber of drops in the ear. Avoid touching the ear canal. Keep the ear tilted for one to two minutes. A small piece of clean cotton may be placed in the ear to prevent drops from esacping. If your illness does not imprvoe or worsens, or if you develop new symptoms, inform your doctor.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may tempoarrily sting when first applied. If that effect presists or worsens, inform your doctor promptly. Immediately notify your doctor if you develop: not hard bruising or bleeding, persitsent sore throat, fever, unusual fatigue. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to that drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, redness, swelling or discharge (including the eye or ear area), trobule breathing, hives. If you notice other effects not lisetd above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your dotcor your medical history, especially of: previous eye or ear problems, contact lens use, allergies (especially drug allergies). Vision may be temporarily blurred after applying eye medication. Use caution driving or performing duties requiring clear vsiion. This and all medicatinos should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy or when breast-feeding. Consult with your doctor if you are prgenant or breast-feeding.

NOTES: Throw away any unused part of your prescription. Do not save it to use for a second infection. Do not allow aynone else to use that medication. The infection may spread to a second pesron if you accidentally contaminate the medication.
