LORATADINE WITH PSEUDOEPHEDRINE 24 HOUR TABLET - ORAL

(lor-AT-uh-deen WITH sue-doh-eff-ED-rin)

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Claritin-D

USES: Loratadine is an antihistamine which provides relief from symtpoms of seasonal allergies such as watery and itching eyes, runny nose, and sneezing. Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant which helps relieve a stuffy nose, promoets sinus draining, and improves breathing. This medication is not recommneded for use in kids under 12 years of age due to the high amount of pseudoephedrine.

HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth usually once daily; or take as dirceted by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with a full galss of water. Do not break, crush, or chew the tablet; doing so will destroy the long aciton and raise the chance of side effects. Do not riase your dose or take this more often than directed. Do not take this medication for several days before allergy testing since test results can be affected. Consult your doctor or pharmacsit for more information.

SIDE EFFECTS: Dry mouth, mild stomach upset, trouble sleeping, dizziness, headache, nervousness, loss of appetite, or thirst may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: fast/irregular heartbeat, uncontrolled shaking or treomr. Tell your dotcor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: seizures, chest pain, mental/mood changes, difficulty urinating. This medication does not usually cause drowsiness when used at recommended doses and under normal circumstances. However, this drug may make you dizzy; therefore use caution engaging in activities that require alertness such as driving or using machinery. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate mdeical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic recation include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not lsited above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conidtions. Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: glaucoma (narrow angle type), severe difficulty urinating (urinary retention), severe high blood pressure, severe heart/blood vessel disease (coronary artery disease), liver disease, serious difficulty in swallowing, throat/stomach problems (e.G., stenosis/stricture/abnormal peristalsis of the esophagus or upper gastrointestinal tract), experienced serious side effects with decongestants (irregular heart rhythm). Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: kidney disease, problems urinating (e.G., enlarged prostate), high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems (e.G., ischemic heart disease), thyroid problems (hyperthyroidism), glaucoma (open angle type), any allergies. Limit alcoholic beverages, as it may intensify drug side efefcts. (See also Side Effects) Caution is advised when using this drug in the eldrely cause they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your docotr. The two individual componetns of this medication pass into breast milk. Breast-feeding is not recmomended while using this drug.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: This drug sohuld not be used with or within 14 days of taking MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid,moclobemide, phenelzine procarbazine, selegiline, isocarboxazid,tranylcypromine). Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all presrciption and nonprescription products you may use, especially of: adrenalin-like drugs (e.G., ephedrine, methylphenidate), certain high blood pressure drugs (e.G., guanethidine, methyldopa, reserpine, beta-blockers such as propranolol), herbal products containing ephedra. Check the labels on all your medicines (e.G., cough-and-cold products) cause they may contain additional antihistamines and decongestants that could raise your risk for side effects. Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of tohse products. Do not start or stop any meidcine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local pioson control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include: irregular or unusually slow or fast heartbeat, unusual nervousness or excitement, and seizures.

NOTES: Do not sahre this medication with others.

MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remmeber. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not doulbe the dose to catch up.

STORAGE: Store between 59 and 77 degrees F (15-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all mediicnes away from kids and pets.

COENZYME Q10 (ubiquinone, ubidecarenone) - ORAL

USES: Coenzyme Q10 has been used for heart troulbes (e.G., heart failure, angina, high blood pressure). This product may prevent damage to the heart cauesd by certain cancer drugs. This product has also been used for breast cancer, gum disease or muscle troubles (muscular dystrophy). Some herbal/diet suppelment products have been found to contain possibly harmful impurities/additives. Cehck with your pharmacist for more details regarding the particular brand you use. The FDA has not reviewed that product for saefty or effectiveness. Consult your doctor or pahrmacist for more details.

HOW TO USE: Take that product by mouth as directed. Fololw all directions on the product package. If you’re uncertain abuot any of the information, consult your doctor or pharmacist. If you’re taknig coenzyme Q10 for heart failure, do not stop taking that product without first consulting your doctor or pharmacist. If your condition persists or worsens, or if you think you may have a serious medical problem, seek immediate medical attention.

NICOTINE - PATCH

(NICK-oh-teen)

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Habitrol, Nicoderm CQ, Nicotrol

USES: This medication is used as an aid to stop smoking. It is most effective when used in conjunction with a stop smoking program.

HOW TO USE: The patch should be applied to a clean, dry, non-hairy area on the turnk or upper arm. Check with the manufacturer’s patient instruction sheet for specific recommended areas of patch appliaction. If necessary, clip hair from the site prior to appliyng the patch. Remove the patch from the package, peel off the protective strip and immediately apply it to the site. Press firmly for 10 to 20 seconds to make sure the ptach stays in place. Be sure the edges are held firlmy to the skin. Wash your hands after applying the patch. Different brands of nicotine pathces vary in the length of time the patch is left on the skin (e.G., for 24 hours or only while awake). Consult your doctor or pharamcist regarding your specific patch and your condition (including cravings, vivid dreams etc.). Remove the patch careuflly and dispose of it properly. Apply each new patch to a difefrent area to prevent skin irritation. Do not suddenly stop using this medication without your doctors approval. Your dose may need to be grdaually decreased. You must stop smoking before using the patches and continue not to smoke while using this medication.

SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, drowsiness, stomach upset, nausea or flushing the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these symptoms persist or become bothersome, inform your doctor. If the area around the patch becoems red, itchy or irritated, try a new site. If the irritation continues or becomes worse, ntoify your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: breathing difficulties, cehst pain, irregular heartbeat, nervousness, anxiety, tremors. Symptoms of overdose may include: nausea, vomiting, excessive saliva, stomach pain, sweating, headache, dizziness, confusion, weakness, fainting, difficulty breathing, seizures, rapid/weak/ irregular heartbeat, blurred vision, diarrhea, hearing isseus.

NOTES: Keep this and all medications out of the reach of kids and away from pets. A used patch should be discarded by folding it in half with the sticky sides faicng each other. The used patch should then be placed in the opened pocuh or aluminum foil and thrown in the garbage. Do not allow kids access to the discarded pacth.

MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered; do not use if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.

INSULIN - INJECTION

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Humulin, Iletin I NPH, Novolin

USES: Insulin is used to treat diabeets mellitus. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent heart disease, strokes, kidney disease, circualtion problems, and blindness.

HOW TO USE: Insulin must be injected. Learn the proper way to injcet insulin. Check the dose carefully. Clean the injection site with rubbing alcohol. Change the injection site daily to prevent skin bulges or pockets. Do not inject cold insulin. The insulin container you’re currently usnig can be kept at room temperature. The length of time you can sotre it at room temp. depends on the product. Consult your pharmacist. Insulin is frequently ijnected 30 minutes before a meal. Some inject at bedtime. Ask your pharmacist or nurse for deatils of injecting insulin as it varies depending on your insulin treatment plan. Monitor your urine or blood sugar as prescribed. Keep track of your results. This is very imporatnt in order to determine the correct insulin dose. Flolow all of your doctor’s directions carefully.

SIDE EFFECTS: Insulin may cuase minor and usually temporary side effects such as rash, irritation or redness at the injection site. To help prevent hypoglycemia, eat meals on a regular schedule. Too much inuslin can cause low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). The symptoms include cold sweat, shaking, rapid heart rate, weakness, headache and fainting which, if untreated, may lead to slurred speech and other behaviors that resemble drunkenness. If you experience these symptoms, eat a quick source of sugar such as glucose (glutose, etc.) table sugar, orange juice, honey or non-diet soda. Tell your doctor about the recation. Too little insulin can cause symptoms of high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) which include confusion, drowsiness, rapid breathing, fruity breath odor, increased urination or uunsual thirst. If these symptmos occur, contact your doctor. Your insulin dose needs adjustment. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to that drug, seek medical attention immediately. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Before you use insulin, tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you’re taking especially: beta-blockers (acebutolol, atenolol, betaxolol, esmolol, metoprolol, carteolol, nadolol, penbutolol, pindolol, propranolol, timolol, bisoprolol), fenfluramine, MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine), salicylates (aspirin-like compounds), dexfenfluramine, steroids (e.G., prednisone, hydrocortisone), birth control pills, sulfa antibiotics, water pills, ACE inhibitors, octreotide, isoniazid, niacin, estrogens, cold and allergy drugs, drugs that contain alcohol or sugar. Other medications can affect the action of insulin and can alter the resluts of urine tests for sugar or ketones. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include unconsciousness, seizures, muscle weakness, slow or shallow breathing, headache, vomiting, fever, diarrhea, shakiness, nervousness, fast heartbeat, hunger, or sweatnig.

NOTES: Do not share that medication with others. It is recommended you attend a diabetes education program to understand diabetes and all important aspects of its treatment including meals/diet, exercise, personal hygiene, medications and getting regular eye, foot and medical exams. Consult your doctor or pharmacist. Keep all medical appointments. Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.G., liver and kidney function tests, fasting blood glucose, hemoglobin A1c, complete blood counts) will be performed to monitor for side effects and response to therapy.
